| Inactive Puppy Who won't eat We just got a new yorkie. She is 12 weeks old. We picked her because she was very pretty and seemed pretty mellow. We have only had her roughly 24 hours, but in those 24 hours she has not ate anything or played at all (or gone potty). She just lays around and sleeps. Is this normal? Is she just adjusting to our new home. We're taking her to the vet as soon as we can get her in (they were closed today). Any ideas? |

| I don't have a lot of puppy experience but I do know that when they are tiny they can have hypoglycemic episodes that are very dangerous. If she has not eaten you need to be extremely careful. Do her gums look pink? If not you can use a little Karo syrup and rub it on her gums to help bring her blood sugar levels back up. Let me see if there is anyone on with more experience with tiny puppies. I'm very worried.

| Yes her gums look pink. One other thing is that her nose stays really wet all the time. Like if her nose touches something it has a wet mark on it. I'm not sure if thats normal either. |

| Do you have Nutrical? I would give her some....she has gone too long without eating. I hope she perks up for you. |

| Pink gums is good. You can also put a little sugar in her water if you don't have Karo. I know the drinking is more important than eating. Are you feeding her the same food that she was eating when you picked her up? If she continues I would get her to a vet tomorrow.

| Did you buy her from a breeder? Maybe you should give her a call and ask a few questions. Do you have Nutrical on hand?

| When Rosie was sick I gave her sugar water. She would not drink the plain water but did drink the sugar water. I actually put it on a spoon to let her taste it and then she went to the bowl. She didn't drink much but anything is better than nothing. You really need to get her to drink. And yes going to the vet tomorrow is a good idea.

| You can use Karo syrup too if you don't have Nutrical.

| You can get Nutri-Cal at any petstore and it keeps up their blood sugar. What time will you be able to him to the vet? If she hasn't drank anything or eaten anything for 24 hours you might want to consider taking her to the ER vet to be on the safe side. Depending on the quality of the breeder (we got our first pup Bandit from a BYB) they can be sick and need immediate vet attention. |

I don't know if I agree with that. I don't remember Rosie being that way nor my friends yorkie. Maybe some of the breeders here can help in that area.
