| My Yorkie STINKS UGH Its really gross. Her breath is horrid and her hair or skin has a weird smell. I don't know if its just puppy smell?I feed her nutro small breed puppy food. Its really starting to gross me out the way this dog smells. I have bathed her with a organic no scent doggie shampoo.I might just get something that helps with odors. |

A very young pup will often times have a milky kind of smell. Now if the coat smells bad, you should check the skin everywhere. Part hair if needed. Look for any anomalies on the skin. Discoloration, bumps, or bruises. A healthy clean dog should not smell "bad" - ie have an unpleasant odorous smell.

Nutro is not the best food to feed. It is pretty low quality. Lots of fillers.

| Are you sure she's not eating her poop when you're not watching? That can cause the breath to smell awful. Zoe's skin and hair smells sweet but she still occasionally eats it after her potty and her breath is bad. She's only 5 mo and it has always been like that.

| I could not feed Nutro to my dogs. They are on Natural Balance. A food that is not quite agreeing with her can cause bad breath but it is actually coming from the stomach. Change her food and I think you will find an improvement. |

| My Claire was gross smelling when I picked her up because she was eating poop. Her breath made you turn your head and feel sick. It took us a while t figure it out that she was even doing that. I've never had a dog that did this before. Today I started feeding her pineapple to make the poop smell bad so she won't want to eat it. I have all my dogs eating it that like it. I heard pumpkin works to but it isn't available in the store I found. She's only been outside on a leash so I can keep a close eye on her. But she smell 100% better today. |

| I think I read somewhere that poor quality food can also contribute to skin/coat odors.

| Food has so much to do with your dogs scent. Keoki is on Primal Raw Diet and has no scent at all- also a puppy should not have stinky breath- cute baby milky breath but not stinky breath- I would take her to the vet and see if something could be wrong |

Does she smell fishy? That could be anal glands. Generally speaking, a yorkie should not smell bad, or even particularly doggy. You can do a search in Health & Wellness on odor, and see what comes up. It could be a health problem. A dog might also smell "musky" after coming into contact with other dogs, but it shouldn't be a horrible, persistent odor.

| Puppies should have... well... puppy breath and not a stinky one. Teething can be a source of bad breath but it doesn't have to. The smelly coat comes probably from the food b/c there are a lot of gross things in it like uncleaned intestines, roadkill, and animals that are not fit for human consumption. One of the best foods is Orijen and you might think of switching. |

| I think the food has alot to do with a yorkies health... If the puppy is teething it is smelly I remember pnuts breath when he was teething, but it didnt smell horrible. It had a smell of blood, thats about it.

| from my experience bad breath can come from eating their own poop or any gastro problems; if gastro add some probiotics to the food; and for coat you can use duoxo maintenance shampoo; it gets rid of bad smell. good luck

| The bad breath would either be from the baby teeth or from coprophagio. The coat smell is probably from your pup licking itself. If the breath smells and they lick, the coat will smell. Used to happen with Ellie all the time... The Nutro should be changed immediately, but I doubt that is where the smell is coming from. If your pup is >6 months old, then it may be a good time to get the teeth pulled.
