| stomach problem with meat? Hi! i was wondering if any one have problem with their yorkie puppy/dog. I noticed strange thing with my puppy (6 months old) that no matter what kind meat i gave him. pork, fish, turkey, chicken, steak, bacon (all flavor) bone, treat, food, etc. he will have dirrehrea & vomiting right away, but with all vegs food, steak, bone, never have dirrehrea, or vomiting. So that makes me wonder if its possible my pup's allegry or just super sentivite to any type meat? |

| I would not give any bacon or pork of any type. You said he gets sick on steak, then you said he doesn't. What you could maybe do is mix just a little ground lamb or ground bison with some gound veggies such as slightly steamed broccoli, and some fresh grated carrots. Make sure there is more veggies than meat. If he does fine with that mix, then just keep him on it for a couple of months till he's a little older and can handle a bit more meat, but take it very gradually, but always mix in some fresh veggies, ground fine. If this doesn't work, I'd try baby food meats and mix it with some baby food carrots or baby food sweet potatoes, squash, or peas.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | What about trying Bison? natutal balance has Sweet potato and bison... ! protien and 1 carb...grainfree.... This is the only "kibble" Izzy can eat.. all the other stuff gives her Losse stools and vomitting... She also eat Raw in the morning and does fine with that... That is also Bison too

Great suggestion! I think there are 'vegetarian' kibbles but i think they are more of a last resort of meat is completely intolerable... not sure though.

| Sorry If i wasn't clear, i mean ANY type of meat it all made his stomach react in same way. dirrehrea or vomiting. if i give him NO MEAT at all, just organic vegan dry food, he have no problem. It worries me if hes really allegry to meat that bad, yesterday he had chicken (my boyfriend's mom gave him....) he ended up vomiting until he had nothing, all night too. i had to stay up to hold him, help him calm down cuz he was crying. i gave him little water through eardropper. now hes much better this afternoon. P.S. I never ever give him any table scraps, because i don't want him raised spoiled & picky with food. Last edited by deafpanda22; 08-24-2010 at 12:52 PM. |

| I found few online, i might have to try this for few weeks see how his stomach handles, if dirrehra & vomiting stop completely on veg diet only then I will know for 100% sure what is bothering his stomach...whew...he's tough to teach, train, care of, I admit that...but its worth of it. |

| My wife gave Buddy some bacon the other day and it made him throw up. He LOVES beef steak and it doesn't seem to have any ill effects on him. My old dog loved venison (deer) which is very lean. I don't have any right now but hopefully will this fall. Buddy likes chicken too, and lamb. The only thing that disagrees with him is pork. |

| Maybe you should have a vet check him out. If there's no illness, then try sprinkle his food with dog probiotics. My baby had sensitive stomach with diarrhea/vomiting whenever he eats snail, worms, etc. he found in the yard. Sometimes it got so bad that I thought he is going to die on me. However, after his vet pronounced his perfectly healthy and with sensitive stomach, I started him on probiotics on the suggestion of a friend who give her toddler probiotics for stomach issues. There are ones specially formulated for dogs. Comes in a capsule and you just open up and sprinkle on his food. No more episodes since then, even when he picnic in the yard or decide to become a wood chipper by eating the furniture. |

| Sorry that your baby has problem. I met this couple who had same problem with their baby in vet's office last week. He had problem digesting protein, so he had to be in special diet. I do agree on probiotics, it is good for over all dog's digestive system. I use holistic ACIDOPHILUS. I think it's best to take him to the vet to be sure.

This is possible. my mom, who had mixed cocker spaniel which had sentivite stomach has same problem same my dog. so she told me that many indegrents in dry food are actually not safe for dogs like: soybean, meat fat, corn, starch, etc.... So my mom helped me get special food without these following items above (forgot name) I mixed it with other dry food and with rice so it won't be sudden change for his stomach. already I noticed very little improvement in his poop. Also he haven't had any meat treats or meat bones since last time i reply & post here. That also helped his stomach I noticed.... On Sept 3rd he have appt with vet for bloodwork, exam, check up, shots. Bloodwork will be full profilo for anything that contains blood: kidney, liver, bladder, etc....So if there is nothing wrong with these then....i will have do allegry or sentivite stomach testing..... I hope that theres just sentivite stomach, nothing worse!.... (fingers crosses)........

I only had my puppy for about month. he's about 6lbs now (his dad dog is 15 lb, mom dog is 9 lb) I noticed if i just give amount like....1 cup for a day, spilt that to 1/3 cup 3 time a day. If i give bowl let him eat it all up, he usually will has gas, belching or once in a while throw up, so I give him spoonful food seperatly wait for him finish that, wait for few minutes then give other spoonful of food, again and again until that 1/3 cup meal bowl are empty. Its very helpful for my puppy. (he's 3 months old this wednesday) food amount really depend on dry food bag you give. if bag said for 5 lbs, give 1 cup amount, that means 1 cup per day, spilt that into 2 or 3, or whatever how much meal you feed him a day. Maybe it will helps yours this way too? Hopefully i am helpful for you

| ok he shouldn't be having any treats or bones at all besides the food; they are not necessary; if anything they cause stomach upset. the meat he's getting could cause this depending how it's cooked. if it's fried or seasoned then it's no good.
