| Can rawhide cause... Can rawhide cause loose stools or diarreah? I have been letting Kelsey (under my supervision) chew on rawhide sticks. And her stools have gotten looser and looser I wanted to change her food from what the breeder was feeding her (Iams small breed formula) to Royal canin yorkie puppy. But should I do that at this time or wait till her poo is back to normal? And is anyone out there feeding their pup the royal canin yorkie puppy food, if so how do you like it? I don't know why I even let her HAVE rawhide. I NEVER gave it to my first dog. I'm going to not let her have anymore: effective immediately. Any advice would be appreciated! THANKS |

| I do not use rawhide or bully sticks. They both can cause illness and choking....also obstructions. I know that many on YT recommend bully sticks, but not for me. There have been problems with them. I use the Dura Chew nylabones for chewing. I do not give my pups any digestible chew toys. Even Nylabone makes digestible chews...I avoid them! Just my opinion.

| I don't allow Levi to have rawhide, but I do let him have bully sticks under my supervision. The few times he has had rawhide (my aunt will occasionally give him one if she is watching him), he tends to throws up afterward. Bully sticks however, are 100% digestible, but because of choking risks, I only let him chew on them when I am watching him closely. I also only buy them from a local pet boutique, because I have found that this particular kind doesn't smell horrible. We've had too many stinky ones!

| Jackson choked on a rawhide when he was 5 months old, and I have never given since. It was the big kind, that gets all soggy when chewed, and he tried to swallow the last bit of it whole and it got stuck. So scary! Rawhide is known for causing LOTS of issues in dogs, obstruction being the worse, and I'm surprised so many pet stores still sell so many of them. I've never had an issue with bully sticks, nor have I heard of an issue. Most of us here take them away when they are down to 1-2" long so choking can be prevented. Bully sticks are 100% digestible. In my humble opinion, RC is not much of an upgrade from Iams, and is over priced for the ingredients that are in it. But that's my unprofessional opinion.

| A couple of links about bully sticks and other chews. I realize that bully sticks are popular with a lot of people on YT, but they do concern me. They absolutely should not be used unless under very close supervision. Of course there are also scares regarding Nylabones. I just think the hard ones that are not digestible are better than all of the digestible treats. I had a pup almost choke many years ago on a Greenie..that was long before the bad press about those things. I stopped using them immediately...scared the heck out of me. Salmonella poisoning: For one thing, salmonella affects dog kibbles way more than bully sticks and people are still feeding their dogs kibble. It stated It has issued at least one official warning for bully sticks. One is not enough for me to not feed it, especially when there are recalls on kibbles all the time for this and dogs immune systems are alot different than humans and often DON'T usually get sick from salmonella like a human would. Of course I don't WANT salmonella in my dogs kibble, lol, and I stay away from recalled food as best as possible, but I trust where I get my bully sticks from. Contamination to humans: lots of things seem to be able to contaminate us. Even going into a public bathroom we can pick up disgusting things. Bully sticks are the least of my worries. Choking hazard: Yeah, there is definitely a hazard, as with ANY chew. Another thing that's not going to stop me from feeding them lol. The only reason I don't feed rawhides is because of the internal blockages it can cause. Odor and staining: I buy the non odor ones and have never had one stain.

| I am not trying to debate anything. I am merely offering my opinion that a lot of people tout bully sticks and I am not a fan of them. I think that many people just go with the flow and honestly I am not so sure they even stop to think of the hazards. I know that many do supervise, but I am willing to bet that most do not. They simply see that many are touting them and they buy them. The Salmonella warning did not concern me so much. My dogs will always have things to chew on. I will say that raw chicken that many people feed turns my stomach because it is a risk.
