| Spaying Tomorrow, really nervous First post! I decided to join because I needed some major reassurance. My baby Coco is getting spayed tomorrow. She just turned 5 months old, and she weighs around 4-5 pounds. I am so, so beyond nervous right now. I just really need some reassurance that it is a safe surgery and I'm doing the right thing, because I feel awful right now. Thanks so much! |

| Yeah, that's why I was asking. When I called she said that they usually do it around 4-5 months, but I also heard wait until 6 months. |

| I have been through it with Rosie. She was about 7 months old when she went if I remember correctly. Your baby will be very out of it if she comes home that night. My vet recommended an overnight stay but I picked her up because I felt she would be better with me. I held her a lot that night. I will say that she bounced back rather quickly. But the next day is the day we added stairs to my bed. She tried to jump and fell. Since she had just had surgery I freaked out! So, off to Petco and purchased the stairs which she still uses today! I won't lie to you. It is hard to see your baby like that but she should do just fine! Please post and let us know how she does.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I just went through that with Sophie, Her surgery started at 2 pm, at 5 she was ready to be picked up, I thought she was going to be asleep, but she was awake all the way till we got home. She did not need pain medication and before 24 hrs. I had to be careful, trying to keep her from jumping on and off the furniture. She didn't get stitches, not in the outside, only inside, and just like everyone told me was tougher on me than it was on her. Sending a big hug to you and your baby, she'll be fine, and so will you

| My dog Daisy was spayed at about 4 mos old. That was a little early. As for the surgery, it went perfectly fine without any complications. Your baby will be fine!

| Thanks guys, it's making me feel a lot better about tomorrow! I live outside Nashville. And they're actually giving her the rest of her shots and a check-up before, so I'm assuming they are. If not, I'll definitely talk to them about that tomorrow. |

| Personally,I would not give any shots before the surgery. I would definitely have pre blood work done to make sure everything is ok before I would have surgery done. I live 60 miles east of Nashville. Good luck

| Would there be a negative consequence if we did go through with the shots? The vet seemed like it was okay, so I really want to make sure now. |

| I would ask the vet. Sometimes our babies have reactions to the shots so I would just double check. I personally would not like the shots before the surgery. I would do one and wait a bit on the other. But I may be an over panicky momma.

| I don't know if your lil one had reactions to shots before, but even if she didn't she could still have one. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk it. What shots is the vet wanting to give? If its the rabie shot she will have to have it. I would get the shot then wait a couple of weeks for the spay. Daisy had to get her rabie shot. I waited a couple of weeks then I had her spayed. I didn't want to chance anything.

| I just had my Trixie spayed a week ago Monday and she is just fine. She is almost 8 months old....why spay so early?? I don't think I would get shots and spayed in same day..... just something I wouldn't do in case of reaction to the shot. Trixie went in at 9:00, they did bloodwork and hydration. She had surgery around noon (and they also removed one leftover baby tooth = another reason not to spay too early in case she has any baby teeth that will/did not fall out). She stayed overnight cuz there is a vet tech there and my vet prefers if the stay for monitoring. I picked her up next morning and she has been fine. My vet put her on an antibiotic just to make sure no problems and sent home pain meds in case....I used them for day 1 and 2 but she was fine after that. Good luck! It's just really hard on us!!
