YT 2000 Club Member | allergic to eggs, rice??? Help.. I am having such a tough time with Tucker that Im kinda at my wits end. I feel so bad for him. Im having a hard time with his allergies and what to feed him that Im at a loss on what to do anymore. I have him on California Naturals grain free lamb dry ( ingred. consist of lamb, peas, potatoes, sunflower oil then vitamins etc) thier canned lamb and rice (lamb, lamb broth, brown rice, flaxseed, vtimans etc)He eats it ok, not super excited about it, but he eats it. He started scratching agian about 3 days ago, it started out mildily and now its gone full blown again. He is knawing on his legs (not feet) and scratching at his belly and face which seems to be non stop. He has been on the dry food for about a month, but I just started the canned last week and to try and encourage him to eat a little more, yesterday I added a small amount of scrambled eggs to his canned food that he gets in the a.m.. For the last day or so the itching has gotten worse, but he was itching some before I added the egg. So could it be something in the canned food?? Could it be the lamb itself, the egg the rice?? Ugh.. I dont no what to do. Its not fleas, he is treated regularly and I check all of my dogs on a regular basis, its not the shampoo or evironmental. He stopped scratching when we switched him to a limited diet, I would think that if it was enviromental the scratching would of contiuned after the food change. He has to be on a lower fat, lower protein diet because he has stomach issues also so that doesnt leave much out there that he can eat. Help!! please...

| Same problem here. It is miserable. If he has never had pancreatitis, you can try a low dose steroid to see if it helps. Yes, it could be egg or lamb or anything with protein and some carbs contain that. So..

| It could be the eggs or the rice in the canned.. I would try to make his diet as bland as possible and then work ingredients back in to see how he responds. In the mean time, I would suggest adding cocotherapy coconut oil (or chips) it does wonders for allergies. Just check out their facebook page or website. CocoTherapy If it would help, I do have some samples I can send you. |

YT 2000 Club Member | thanks for your help. It is so very frustrating.... I havent tried an rx allergy diet yet. I was hoping that if I tried a very limited premium food diet that it would help. I am now on the hunt for a quality limited fish diet, that is the only other protein source we havent tried, only because my dogs arent super interested in fish based diets but at this point I need to try something else. If that doesnt work then Im going to try an rx diet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried cocotherapy in the past, mostly for thier tearing eyes. I didnt see much improvement so I stopped. It also seem to make Tucker's coat, more "greasy" looking between baths. However if it will work for his allergies then I will def. try it again..

| The problem with using your last protein source is that if it doesn't work or it only works for awhile, then you will have nothing to go to. Have you tried duck, venison, and rabbit or not yet? Fish has helped Ellie's itchies it seems, but maybe not so much anymore. It is frustrating. And the hydrolyzed diets don't work for her. Z/D Ultra is supposed to be a good one if you want to give it a try. I also think that since the problem hasn't gotten any better with so many changes, it may be time to talk to a nutritionist.

Not sure if he has ever had a full blown case of pancreatitis, but he does have stomach issues. He can not tolerate any food high in protein or fat. It makes him throw up, gassy, bloated and just plain uncomfortable. It really doesnt leave us with much choices with food..

But again, every dog is different, and while I've heard great things from many people, maybe it doesn't work for your guy. Good luck. It sure sounds very frustrating! | |
