| My Yorkie isn't eating! I have a 7 month old who will not eat. She is in her first season and I am wondering if this is a side affect of that. We are guilty of giving her table food, but lately she is even refusing that. I've read alot about hypoglycemia in puppies - should I be concerned or is this picky eating normal for a yorkie puppy? |

| How much does your baby weigh?? I'm asking because the smaller pups will have problems with hypoglycemia but the larger ones usually don't have a problem. Your baby just might be allergic and maybe you should try a protein that she has never tried before, like duck, rabbit, venison, etc.. Alot of dogs are allergic to chicken and lamb and most dog foods have that in it. Also, I switched all my dogs to a raw diet 2 years ago and all my pickiness is gone, my chihuahua used to be a vegetarian by her own choice. All she would eat is fruit, veggies and sometimes yogurt until I tried her on raw. Now she is a lean mean meat eating machine!! She is still only 3 lbs. but she has muscle tone now and eats like a lion! Good Luck with your little one.

| My yorkie has always been a picky eater. She is only 4 lbs and I am always afraid of hypoglycemia. I have a bottle of karo syrup in case she seems lithargic, but I've never had to use it. Apparently she does eat enough for her size, although I never see it! The only kibble she'll eat when she's desperate is royal canin for yorkies. I too am guilty of table food, but she won't eat most of that either. I've tried everything including raw diets. I have found one thing she loves - chicken thigh meat from el pollo loco or costco rotteserie. (Not my home cooked!) I bought a supplement called "missing link" (google it) and I sprinkle that on the chicken. She'll eat that and her kibble and we're good to go! I've relaxed on her eating habits since she used to drive me crazy! I called her my anorexic puppy. But really I wish I had her eating habits. She only eats when she's hungry and she doesn't necessary finish everything on her plate! She is in great shape and very healthy. Tonight I discovered she loves shrimp. Go figure. I'm hoping she doesn't have a bad reaction but so far so good. Be patient, your puppy will eat when she is hungry.

| Glad to know my girl isn't alone in her eating habits or should I day lack of. She eats pretty good for a bit even asks for 2nd ' s and then goes on strike for awhile. I've come to the conclusion that they will eat when they want and won't go hungry . |

I don't give seconds because sometimes they always seem hungry. I feel regular scheduled meals to maintain regularity

| This sounds just like my Bentley! He is 7month and I'm going through the same thing. I feed him a very high protein kibble. I read this so it's what I've done in the past and that is put food down for 15 minutes if not eaten take up until next feeding. So I went into petsmart with intention to switch him to raw frozen diet....the girl that helped me encouraged me to leave the food down all day and see what happens before I switched. So I'm going to try that and If not I'll have to switch to raw. Dies anyone have a company preference for raw. I probably shouldn't worry so much considering my guy weighs 12lbs already...which leads to the question how much more will he grow??? He is 12lbs at 7 months. Thanks yall!

| I only let it go for maybe a day. A breeder told me "picky eaters are created so don't leave the food all day, eventually they get the message that eating time is when the food is put down"..... she says it could take 2 or 3 days.... so far , when her belly rumbles after a day, I mix up meat in it... |

| Help, my yorkie won't eat I have been reading through all the posts and have tried everything, now I am at a loss. Toby is 7 months old and has been a real challenge to feed since we got him. I have tried him on different dry dog foods, mixing it with non sweetened apple sauce, wet dog food, cottage cheese. I've left his food down for 15 minstrel then picked it up, he went 2 days without eating. I switched to a bigger bowl then a plate incase he didn't like his whiskers touching the sides of the bowl. Nice have recently resorted to syringe feeding him and now that is becoming a fight. I am at a loss, does anyone else have suggestions?? |

You may want to visit your vet to make sure there are no medical issues involved first. If he's supposedly healthy, then... What kibbles have you tried so far? Have you tried soaking them in water first? Sprinkling the kibble with a bit of Parmesan cheese? Or have you tried feeding freeze-dried patty meals - they're usually hard to resist (i.e. Stella n Chewies/ Primal / Orijen)? How often does he get walked - maybe not enough exercise? Welcome to YT by the way! P.S. I've visited Hamilton once

| I've had Toby for 3 months now and from day one it has been a real struggle. It seems he falls in love with a certain food just as quickly as he falls out of love with it. He goes to the bathroom regularly and his poops are also healthy, no off colours or soft. I do find he favours anything not edible like dirt which has me worried; I've set up a vet appointment for latter today. As for his kibble, I have: softened it, made it into a paste, mixed it with cottage and parm cheese. My problem is he falls in love with a food then doesn't touch it again. Last week I thought cottage cheese would do the trick but apparently not. I take him for walks twice a day, morning and night then give him his food. when i first started this he devoured his bowl of food but now when i put his food down he turns his nose up. I play with him as often as I can, he likes to chase a toy mouse around the house. I'll look for the freeze-dried patty meals you suggested in the pet food stores around here. |
