| Yes you are correct, I actually spoke with my vet about that today and she said when they turn 6 months is the best time (or even 7 months if you prefer). They'll also microchip your baby too at that time while he's under being neutered

| My Vet wouldn't neuter until my two were 6 mos. I've heard that 6 mos is the best time to do it too.

| At least 6 months....close to 7 months is great as well, good time to pull any retained teeth as well.

| Six months if your vet will pull retained puppy teeth at that time if not a little later

| I had mine neutered at 7 months to also make sure they can take any retained teeth. |

| Between 6 and 7 months. Teeth are in and if any remaining baby teeth did not fall off the vets can remove while the dog is under anesthesia. Also you do not want to delay too long ... think of testicles maturing and you do not need that testosterone there ... XOXO

| Another point to consider Here's an article that made me re-think of going with a 6 month spay/neuter: http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf Good luck with whatever you decide.

OP: I personally would wait 8-10 month range, or to be more precise, I'd ask my vet to check if my pup's growth plates have closed and not do it before.

| My vet told me anywhere between 6-9 months for smaller yorkies (Harley is 3lbs) I went right at 6 months because he started a wicked humping habit... I had to take away all his larger toys. So in we went at 6 months... habit disapeared... |

It looks like the general consensus is around 6-7 months. I'll ask my vet to be sure. Thanks, everyone. | |

| I have the same question regarding my 6 1/2 mo girl, Zoey. Talked with the vet about growth plates and she said they are finished about 1 year of age. I asked why it was important to spay "before" her first heat and she said it was just a precaution to prevent pregnancy. Well, little Zoey is not going to get pregnant any time soon - not ever - and she weights 5 lbs. I think I will wait until she is 8 or 9 mos old and weighs a little more. She can just wear panties if she comes into heat before then. I think maybe with a male it show be sooner. Cherie |
