| Dr. Bonner's for dental care I have had it with dog tooth paste! Even the Virbac Vanilla Mint doesn't really freshen breath. Do you think it really does anything to fight or break down tarter? So today I broke out the BIG GUNS. I bought some of Dr. Bonner's all Natural Peppermint "Soap" (but you can use it as mouth wash and tooth paste, the ingredients is vegetable oil and essential oils). Okay, so I added a drop of Dr. Bonner's Peppermint Castile Soap in about three tablespoons of water in a bottom of a glass and then put a little bit of baking soda on a saucer. I did the dogs one at a time, and dipped their tooth brush in the "soapy" water and then put a tiny bit of baking soda on it. The dogs didn't seem to appreciate my enthusiasm, but their breath smelled minty fresh (well, more of a neutral smell with slight hint of mint). All and all I was VERY impressed! Don't worry, I tried using it on myself before I tried it on them! |

| Never use human toothpaste or mouthwash on your dog. It contains ingredients that are toxic to dogs like fluoride and xylitol. Dogs can't spit toothpaste out like we do so most of it is swallowed.

| Don't worry, the ingredients in this are jojoba oil, coconut oil, hemp oil and eucalyptus and peppermint oil. There is nothing that can be harmful if swallowed. Plus, I dilute it. After today's trial, I highly recommend it! Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Retail Store: Classic Liquid & Bar Soaps |

Case in point Pepermint Oil is a natural deterent to mice and rats. Eucalyptus is not recommended for dogs.

| I have some Dr. Broner's, also. I think I might try it, too. I would think the the peppermint oil should be ok. It is in the dog tooth paste as well as in a lot of treats. I have a question. Do you use the same brush for all your dogs or does each have their own? |

| When I checked out the website, the description and ingredients for the peppermint soap were: DESCRIPTION: Our most popular fragrance. The peppermint essential oil tingles the body and clears the mind. Because therapeutically peppermint oil is a mild stimulant it increases vitality and clarity. All oils and essential oils are certified organic to the National Organic Standards Program. Packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. INGREDIENTS: Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Mentha Arvensis*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil*, Citric Acid, Tocopherol I know Potassium Hydroxide is another name for Caustic Potash, which is not something I would give a Yorkie (or any other animal)

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know why anyone would use something that is not made for dogs, why take the chance? There are so many great products for dogs.

I agree with Nancy. With all the dog toothpaste on the market, why would anyone take a risk using human toothpaste? | |

We all have to take the responsibility of what we use on our dogs. They are our dogs. But, with something such as this, without input from a vet, putting out here for other's to read, is something that shouldn't be done. Unless you are willing to take the consequences of something going wrong. Somethings may not show as immediate reaction but, over time can show up as liver or kidney damage a few months down the road.
