| question about feeding hi i have a new yorkie as of last week, he is much smaller than my other 2 yorkies, my one was about 6 pounds and my other is a little chubby at about 9ish, I always fed my 2 dogs a can of evo a day they split it, and dry taste of the wild whenever they wanted it was left down all the time,,, and treats and chewies when i saw fit, i also soemtimes changed out the evo with stella and chewy dehydrated burgers as i call them. never had a problem before my dogs shaffer and fife knew whose was whose and they respected it. fife is no longer here sadky he had ct and needed 2 b pts. I now have cooper who is 2 years old and a little over 3 pounds my vet said he could gain a half pound but do it gradually, cooper seems to always be hungry he doesnt beg or anythong like that just always alert on food, i never had such a small dog so i am looking to see what others are feeding dogs about 3 pounds thanks so much |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Most people seem to feed their dogs the same food, just different amounts depending on caloric needs. Sometimes small yorkies are more fussy, but if they like the same food as the bigger dogs, there's nothing wrong with that.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | If cooper is healthy then he can eat the same thing shaffer is eating. I feed taste of the wild pacific salmon because it has the lowest amount of protein among all the flavors. I used to feed Innova but once proctor and gamble bought them out i switched. Stella and Chewy's "burgers" are great. I love the raw food diet and used to feed Nature's Variety and Primal to my yorkie but she has a slight liver problem so i felt it was best to back off the raw. Even though cooper needs to gain weight you don't want to do it by overfeeding him now. If he's on a balanced diet with the proper amount of food for his size he will gradually gain the weight and balance out at a good weight. Several small meals throughout the day will help. If the dry is left out all day and he's constantly eating from it then i'd pick that up and just do scheduled feedings. if he just picks at the dry then i feel its ok to leave it out. You can then take the proper amount of the dehydrated raw for his weight range and break that into 3-4 meals throughout the day.

| i took up the dry,,, shaffer doesnt seem to mind, i know his eating habbits so i know when he likes to eat, he also goes for an afternoon visit at my neighbors she is a retired schhol teacher he goes and eats down at her place everyday so im not worried about shaffer and he could stand a half pound loss. I was was wondering more about how much to feed, the bag seems like a crazy amount of dry, the stella and chewy says he should have 2 burgers a day that seems high also. i dont want to over feed him but i dont want him hungry either, he likes carrots and corn brusselsprouts ,, vet said corn was fine i dont thinkit was,,, i give him dry as a treat when he does things well and veggies, and he gets a GOOD treat a few times a day, shaffer is a treat snob, and treats add to his weight issues, and he is also a lazy dog. ... i am teaching cooper to play ball and give me his paw sit and stay, he got the steps up to the bed in one night. he is so eager to please, I am his 4th person and i guess he wants to keep me. Shaffer taught him how to chew a chewie, he also seems to love the merrick flossies now that he knows what to do with them, he is over 2 and still has baby teeth i have had hima week now and already 2 fell out the rest will be taken ot fri when he is fixed and has his dental,, his teeth are already so bad, Im glad he is with me now. He is pretty active he loves to run and play around shaffer watches him like its tennis pretty funny. |

| he ate beniful or purina one before I got him or whatever was on sale. He was used as a stud dog from what I gather, but he doesnt seem to have that stud dog personality so I just dont know. His vet records are scetchy at best. I do know he is eager to please and is so happy here, mayb not happy after i fix hin get his dental done of friday, i gave him a bath he came to me clean but its been a week so I gave him a bath he wasnt bad he was just scared to death like he wasnt sure what it was. He is great in the car likes other dogs , hates to walk between cars. I liv in a townhouse and sorta need to walk btween mine and my neighbors but we are working on it, He didnt know his name when I got it so i cahnged it, 2 years old and dint know his name, he had a number on his papers, sad but he knows his name in just 1 week. |

| he is a gem so far, I had to pu fife down only a few weeks ago, I was devistated, I found an online chat group that helped me after fife died I knew I wanted to get another dog soon because shaffer was so lost and needed a buddy, I was scared to get another dog because fife and shaffer while totally dof dogs were are both great i wondered how the next one would be, I said to the chat group that I was worried that while I felt I had 2 mercedes of dogs what if the next one was a skate board, they replied skate boards need love too. he is turning out to be a very compact mercedes. Im sure he is happy he found me but im happy i found him too I still miss fife and part of my heart will always miss him but cooper is helping me heal, and watching how nice shaffer is with him makes me happy, Shaffer thinks its silly he does a trick or sits stays for a piece of dry kibble but cooper hasnt caught on yet |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | what type of meat is the freeze dried patty that you are feeding? i just went to the site and plugged in 3lbs normal active adult and went through each variety. There is a different amount for each, i guess depending on how fatty the meat is. beef is 1.5, chicken is 1.75, lamb 1.25, and duck is 1.75 patties a day. so maybe you could feed 1 patty for breakfast, 1/2 for lunch, and a small amount of dry before bed to tie him over during the night

| i buy the beef,, shaffer has issues if he eats chicken so i try to stay away from chicken, i tried the duck shaffer didnt love it and im not sure the cutters mill near me has the lamb, ill try one in the am and half at lunch, how much do consider a little bit of dry? I hope once cooper gets use to it here i can leave the dry down all the time and he wont just pig out and eat the entire bowl. he isnt food aggressive but he seems like he eats to store up because he doesnt know when his next meal will be. he takes his treats nice and food nice from my hand that only took a day to learn. He doesnt like to wait if shaffer gets a treat first ,, im trying to teach him to take turns shaffer could care less he knows he will get it now or 2 seconds later but i want cooper to wait nicely |

| hi thanks for the replies... breeder was NOT my friend I didnt even know her I did some research from the papers I got on himand found out what I did. A member here kalina82 sent me a link to him from craigslist, he wasnt really a rescue persay but infact I did rescue him. I am being super patient with him, I am shocked at how well he is doing. He is eager to please, and cute as a button, and an early bird like my fife was,,, shaffer would sleep til noon if i let him, I let him sleep while cooper and i go for our first 2 walks but then i make shaffer get out of bed. cooper also has me trained to share my pillow,, he likes to sleep on it with me. this is just a general guideline of my opinion of what i would do. You will probably have to alter some things based on your particular situation with cooper.

| I am getting 2 puppies from a breeder that I thought was good. I checked into her well I think. But I would like to make sure that it is not the same breeder that this little one came from. Would you mind telling me the breeders name?

| Im not exactly sure where cooper came from I rescued him,, im his 4th owner,,, but cooper seems to be bread pretty well he has terrible teeth and wasnt fixed but that was because he was not a pampered pooch before now. If you are asking about my other dog fife HE came from a BROKER i thought I did my research she lied and lied and i thought she was honest. DIVA PUPS where I got fife was put out of bus, I hear she pops up now and then, I hope she sleeps well at night knowing the heart break she has caused me, I thought fife wa sa sound dog but he came from a PUPPY MILL IN MO, I paid 4200.00 for him but the broker at diva pups paid 400.00. If I had one wish in the world it would be stop bad breeders |
