Does neutering change a boy's personality?

Hello fellow YT members, I am planning on neutering Miloh within the next 2 weeks and was wondering if I should expect a personality/mood change? Meaning, will Miloh be less playful and much more calm. I love his playfulness although he can sometimes get carried away, but in the end, he is just my little man. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, he will stop trying to hump Uni. JK! I don't think it will too much. I have just noticed before in my cats, one got fatter and lazier (I neutered him later) and one stayed skinny (I got him neutered earlier)

Good one! lol That is of the main reasons why I want to neuter him. Oh man, I hope I'm not too late! He'll be 8 months on the 7th of this month. Well I am praying that he will remain the same, my boyfriend's family keeps telling me that I will soon have a "ball less dog", it just really pisses me off! Besides that, he is doing great, just growing & getting cuter. My parents just came back from SF and were telling me they kept showing Miloh off (through pictures) to the people they encountered up there. hehe

I think 8 months is a good age. Most of his adult teeth should be in by now. so the baby teeth that haven't come out can be pulled then. I don't remember if he retained any baby ones. Kaji was one year when he got neutered, so it's never too late.

Uni is doing good thanks for asking. she's doing much better now after her bout with pancreatitis. I found a new food she loves, and it's SO easy to feed her now.

I don't think Miloh will change much. I know you haven't seen it but Kaji is still the crazy man he was before his neuter. He was neutered a little after his first birthday. He's still full of energy and spunk. He's just too scared to show off in front of you. He was a scaredy cat even before the neuter, so nothing changed there.

He will be uncomfortable at first, and it will take a while before all the testosterone is finally out of his system. It doesn't all just magically disappear after the neuter. It's more like it slowly flushes out of his system.

Don't mean to hog your thread, but this is Kaji months after his neuter. He just learned to play with a ball! and yes, that is a full sized tennis ball. See... spunky as ever.

Bogie was 7 months when he was neutered and it didn't change him at all. He still is spunky and he never has marked or humped anything or anybody

I was all in a tizzy when I finally decided it was the right thing to do. The humping (constantly followed Bayden the Burnese mountain dog around humpity hump hump hump, at my friends place) will come to a stop. Teegy's personality did not change one iota, my friends say he's calmed down but I don't really see it, I figure that's part of coming of age.
And the recovery is instantaneous. I called the vet and he was up and eating, phew. Got him home treated him as though nothing had happened and my bouncy happy fella was right back.

I don't see a big difference either. I just had one of my boys neutered yesterday and he is doing great! Same love bug as he always is!!! For some reason my boys are such lovers.

Sebi was neutered at 7 months because his testicle never dropped. Before the neutering he humped everything in sight - constantly. After the neutering, even with a belly full of stitches, he was still humping everything in sight. However, gradually that slowed down and eventually stopped completely. He doesn't do it at all any more, but he is still the same bubbly, energetic puppy. Now his twin sister humps him.

Had Beamer neutered a few months ago. He is just as lovable and playful as ever. Someone told me that once he was neutered he would be more lovable and wouldn't "mark his territory" the same.
Well, I don't think it was possible for him to be any more lovable than he already was. But he still marks his territory! Usually right by the bathroom door. (although the little stinker went over to Lil Bit's bed the other day and marked his territory on that, had to put it in the washing machine).

Work with him. Kaji was a bad marker. He tried marking everything, but I worked with him and now he doesn't. It wasn't immediate, but over time he got the message that I did not appreciate him marking our home. Outside he gets nothing but praise, but inside he gets a correction. I think of it almost like giving him an outlet for his "doggyness." He's going to be a dog, and do what dogs do. He needs an outlet for that and that's fine, as long as it's outside. I also try to make things easier for him by cleaning up as best I can. Any accident is quickly cleaned up with an enzyme cleaner so he can't go back and smell it later.

Problem is I have to catch him doing it. When I see him marking his territory I can let him know it is not OK.
We have tile through the house not carpet, so I am not sure if the odor lingers when I clean up after him. Do I still need an enzyme cleaner for tiles??

I would use it anyway. If Beamer's pee is as potent as Kaji's I'd be using anything I can to get rid of any lingering smell. You might not smell it, but Beamer sure can. Have you tried belly bands? That helps because it catches any accidents and while it helps with the clean up, it also helps because if Beamer goes back to smell the same spot right after he marked, he'll realize he is wasting his time. It just isn't going to happen. You're right though, the only way to teach them not to is to follow them around and correct them every time they do it. If I couldn't watch Kaji, he was in his pen. It's almost like potty training again.
