Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Vasectomy for dog? My daughters boyfriend went to have his dog neutered ( black Lab) . He wanted to use my vet but he was out of town and he wanted it done while on vacation. So he went to one I really don't like and was upset from the start. They didn't remove his testicles. I was shocked I have never heard of neutering the dog and leaving the testicles. I can understand what purpose leaving them would be. This really bothered me. Only reason I can see them doing it would be money. So later on they will say they need to be removed because of risk of cancer. Has anyone heard of this? Anyone have any thoughts? Melissa

| not for sure if this is the issue or not...but i know some of the vets here in TN do that if the dog is under 6 months old at the time of neutering...........supposedly they drain the testicles at the same time as they cut and tie the cords...........not sure why their vet did that ....but that seems to be the excuse of vets here.

| I have never heard of vasectomies for dogs. I do know that sometimes the sack might be swollen after a neuter leading people to think there are still testicles in it. Usually it shrinks after a while. I just found the following link that suggests that some vets do vasectomies, and while it may prevent mating, it does nothing to change the drive or the possibilities of cancer later on: http://www.peteducation.com/article....2+2112&aid=911

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This is crazy, and says a lot about the vet/men involved. The number one cause of death for male dogs is due to car accident injuries. This will not stop the dog from wanting to find a bitch, it seems almost cruel to have the desire with never an outlet. People involved in dog fighting do not want to neuter their males because it makes them less aggressive, furthermore, they don't like to pay the fees associated with unneutered males. I hope that this won't become a popular option for them.

| I have a friend who has a pom and he was barely two pounds and very sickly at the time but the vet insisted and they did this to him

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | But why? Did she have other dogs that weren't spayed? You'd still have to put the dog out for a vasectomy. This makes no sense to me.

| There is an injection they may give at the testicles and will make the "unfertil", i am not sure that is the right word but you get the "point" ... The downside of it is just what you pointed, it does not prevent cancer ! Also some owners may elect it because of cosmetic "reasons", but there are inplants to substitute the real testicles if that is the issue ... some are noisy and the prostetic material silicone like is preffered... kekeke... sort of a weird funny answer but just research, google it and you will find info on it! I am with you ... why bother... just remove and let the boy be happy and healthy ! XOXO

| I have heard of vasectomies for dogs. All it does is prevent reproduction since it doesn't effect testosterone. All the undesirable traits like marking, roaming, etc. will remain. They also have prothetic testicles for neutered males - neuticles. Neuticles.com Gotta believe men are behind all this. |

| You don't hear people demanding that their female dogs get their tubes tied or go on the pill!

| I just had the funniest visual. Someone running behind their dog with the pill in hand wrapped in cheese. "C'mon fluffy! It's 12, time for your birthcontrol!"
