| Eukanuba for puppies http://www.petworldshop.com/pictures...rmula-food.jpg I have a question regarding Eukanuba small breed formula puppy chow, my breeder when I first got Oliver was feeding him this and says she swears by it. She said it was a little more expensive but that it was great for puppy's nutrition so I went and got the same thing. I also asked my vet about it at his initial check-up and she confirmed that it was a good brand of food. Well in speaking with other people, they don't seem to think so. I worry that my breeder actually gets discounts off of Eukanuba products in exchange of promoting it since the folder and information she gave me was the same brand so I don't know how reliable she is since she may be receiving a profit. I trust my vet but I still would like some more opinions. What do you all feed your puppies?? He's just about 12 weeks old now and I want to feed him something that will keep him strong and healthy that hopefully doesn't make his poops irregular or anything. Thanks for your help!! |

| You can go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com to review different dog foods. I'm not sure they put puppy food on there, but they might. It does seem like new people come on here and say the breeders are feeding Eukanuba. I've seen it a few times. Weird. Anywho, I wouldn't feed Eukanuba to mine, but that's a personal preference after I did research and came to my own conclusions. I urge you to do the same just so you know what you're feeding your pup. Just like you would look at the nutrition label of your own food, you should do it for your pets. Good luck!

| I think Eukanuba has a breeder's program where they send free puppy packets and samples for litters, and they also send coupons and have a "buy so many get one free" program. I haven't heard of a breeder getting paid to feed it though. |

| Oh ok that may be it, I wasn't sure but I got a bunch of pamphlets and packets of Eukanuba when I brought home Oliver. Thanks for the advise, definitely going to do my research! |

| My 10.5 week old puppy is loving Taste of the Wild--both the kibble and the wet food.

| I would never feed it personally. For one, they are run by Proctor&Gamble (who also makes IAMS, and unfortunately just bought over a good company [Innova]) P&G has been known to do animal testing which is just terrible and reason enough for me not to feed it. I particularly like this website, Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings because it explains why each ingredient is good, or each ingredient is bad. The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare? is good too. They have different links regarding myths about high protein, how to read dog food labels, etc. Of course I will always recommend people go to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble as well. I prefer higher protein, lower carbohydrate, grain-free, meat heavy based foods such as Acana, Orijen, Go! and Now! Naturals, Blue Buffalo, Wellness Core, Taste of the Wild, etc. But it's all a matter of trial and error and seeing what works for your dog best. Every dog is different and their systems can and cannot tolerate certain things. It took us a long time to be totally satisfied and we found Acana grainfree. I'm hoping we found a winner and it seems to be working for Jackson really well. Of course I am *always* looking to rotate foods and add a new kibble into our rotation, etc. So the research never stops, haha. I bought a 1lb sample bag of Go! Endurance and Jackson really seemed to like it so we may add that into our rotation as well.

| We have Pippin on Holstic Selects Anchovy, Sardine, and Salmon dry kibble. He loves it and won't touch anything else. Theres recently a new pet store that opened up in my area it's called The Bone and Biscuit and they sell some high quality dog and cat food, and the owner seems to know what she's talking about. I was curious and told her about Pippin's food alergies and she lead me straight to the food he's already on and said it would be good for him. Pippin's been eating it for a year or so now, it's the only kind of food we buy him.

| Wow that's really helpful thanks! I just went to a couple websites and requested samples of dry foods to try with my pup...he's still young so I don't want to make him sick as he's eating very well right now and seems to love his food but I do want to try some healthier choices. Thanks so much!! |

| Aww that's good to hear! I mean my puppy LOVES his food and I even use it in my training sessions with him when teaching him to sit, lay down, stay, etc. He gets so excited when I feed him and seems to be pooping regularly and everything. I just wonder if the gunk build up in his eyes is due to his food...I know all puppies/dogs have those tears but I've heard you can potentially change that by the kind of food they eat. Anyway good to know your pup loves it and looks beautiful, thanks! |

| When I first brought Miloh home, the breeder gave me a Eukanoba sample as well. I began to find out that the food makes Miloh's breath smell bad and once I found the dog food analysis website I figured out that the food is given a grade of a C. Miloh's coat is very shiny. The ingredients list aren't all too good when compared to other foods as Innova, Wellness, or Orijen. The only reason why I like the food is due to the size of the kibble. But I have began to look into changing to either Wellness, Orijen, or Blue Buffalo. Hope this helps! |

| You will be just fine feeding Eukanuba. There are better substitutes that will cost more but you will just fine with what you have. Just like human food, yes you could eat a fully organic diet but will be just fine with farmed salmon, non-organic vegetables, and white bread instead of whole grain wheat bread. |

| Thanks! Yeah I love the size of the kibble because he's so small...I'll probably continue with this (since I have a FULL bag of it lol) and try and transition other brands to see if he likes any others. I'm just worried about the gunk in his eyes because its actually pretty bad, but then again I don't know what's typical or not. |

| I've used Eukanuba for a number of years and been very happy with the results. Everything from when I had G. Danes to my now yorkies and soon to be chihuahua that will be coming home. I've never had any issues with my dogs, but like pther posters have said, it's all about choices. Best of luck! |

| i have fed Eukanuba ever since I got my first yorkie. I am just not going to drive an hour each way or more to buy anything else. i have done that in the past and tried out just about everything but keep coming back to this. my dogs love it and eat it better than anything else on the market and trust me, I have tried a lot of them. I keep all my breeding dogs on it. yes, they do have a program for breeders as Nicki mentioned. but i have never gotten any discounts of anykind. you can save your scan bars and when you get so many, tirn them in and you get a bag of free food. i have never done that. i think you have to be a big scale breeder to collect enough to get the free food. no coupons either unless someone else sends them to me. They have the little information folders and free sample packets of food for breeders to give the buyers BUT, you have to order them. I have had so few pups in the past two years, I haven't ordered any. Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 06-24-2010 at 02:32 PM. |
