| Anybody ever feed their Yorkie deer or turkey meat? My dad is an avid hunter to put it lightly. At all times he keeps freezers full of deer and turkey. He just gave me two huge wild turkey breast meat slabs. I was thinking of smoking or broiling some for Knox, but I heard somewhere that turkey isn't too good for them, so I've been holding off. Any thoughts? I feed Knox Blue Buffalo mainly. He was getting tired of it, so I switched him to Taste of the Wild. I put the Blue in one dish, and the Taste in another. The first day, he didn't touch the Blue and ate only the Taste. Ever since then though, he won't tough the Taste and will only eat the Blue. Go figure. lol |

| Turkey white meat is fine for dogs. DO NOT feed dark meat. Also, I would not broil or smoke it. I'd bake it plain with nothing on it. I am not sure about the "wild turkey slabs" part though - that part would make me nervous (I'm a city girl LOL) With all that being said, you're always better off to feed your dog a balanced meal and not just treat them like garbage disposals.

| I mix a little turkey meat (ground wht meat) into Lola kibble otherwise she will not eat it. As Cathy mentioned, I would not broil or smoke the turkey meat.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I know lots of people who feed venison as the source of meat in their raw diet.

| We got some dehydrated turkey samples from a member here and they were very well received by all the furry ones.

| I believe it's the turkey skin that is the no-no. But true white meat has less fat than dark, so you wouldn't want to give them the dark meat anyway. I'll have some of the dark meat though. With skin too

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I alternate meats with our home prepared diet, sometimes using venison and would certainly feed wild turkey if it were in my freezer. I know wild turkey is different than domestic turkey. It is a much healthier meat than farm raised birds, as it doesn't have near the fat content that domestic turkey meat does and wild turkeys are not fed chemicals to enhance their growth.

| Both are fine to feed Both turkey and venison are fine to feed to your dog. Many prey-model raw feeders feed them as the main source of food. White and dark meat are fine to give. The turkey skin I would remove as fat tends to give animals much looser stools. Here is a link to some rawfeeding information if you are interested in that as it is quite easy and extremely healthy for the yorkie: Jane Anderson's Raw Learning Site Good luck and congratulations on obtaining some excellent meat for your yorkie!
