| Tramadol and SAMe (interaction?) Has anybody used these together? I was just doing some research on pain meds and I see that Tramadol and SAMe are best not given together at this time (they both affect serotonin). But I know many liver compromised take SAMe and this is one of the pain meds of choice for liver problems. So has anybody heard anything about this? I was going to try Tramadol next time Ellie needed pain meds, but now I'm not so sure that I'd even want to request it. We may just stick to buprenorphrine. Just really surprised to see that there is a possible problem with this.

| I read about a possible reaction when both are used, but I have never had a problem. Lady gets Denosyl everyday and Tramadol for arthritis flare ups. |

| Hmm, good to know. There doesn't seem to be definitive info either way. ETA: I like Tramadol and SAMe, but Ellie is on Denosyl, so I'm not sure the Tramadol would be right for her...

| I have not used these together but I did know that you should not use these together as It can cause too much seratonin in the brain which can lead to signs relayed to seratonin toxicity and that can cone on rapidly. As an aside, we've used tramadol for daisy (liver compromised pup) with good results, but she is not on SAMe.

| Yes it can. The types from vitamins store are usually discouraged because they sometimes come from companies that don't guarantee a certain dose and it isn't regulated. Most people use Denosyl or Denamarin by Nutramax for their pups. There are also a couple others that may be recommended...Zentonil and Denestra.
