| Feeding two dogs Okay, I need a little advice. I have a 17 month, 3 lb 1 oz, little girl (Ally) and a 4.5 month, 2 lb 4.5 oz new baby girl (Tia). Ally doesn't like to eat. She truly thinks it's a chore to eat; it's like asking a child to clean their room. Tia loves to eat. If somebody else gets something, she's right there to get her share. Right now they are separated because of ringworm, but within a month they will be back together. I leave food down all day for Ally and watch her food intake and am monitoring/measuring Tia's food intake. Does anybody have suggestions on food dishes when they get back together? I don't want to pick up Ally's dish, because she WILL NOT eat. Do I teach Tia not to eat out of Ally's dish? When I first got Tia, I had to pick her up so Ally could eat. She just moved right in and Ally would walk away. |

| Your babies are adorable! Great picture. I trained my boys to stick to their own food bowls. They still need gentle reminders because they like to tease each other and steal a kibble here and there. |

| Gosh that is a tough one. I have two babies too, but I am lucky they are both chow hounds. They clean their bowls within 5-6 min. I do stay with them and monitor them, if I don't Jada gets finished before Bogie and she tries to get in his food. It would be hard for you since one of your babies is more of a nibbler and eats throughout the day and the other one is like my two, loves to eat. I am sure you will get some more input for members who have the same situation. Love the pic, you have two little cutie patootie's.

| The way I trained my boys is by separating their food dishes by about 3 feet (the way my kitchen sets up, the dishes are lined along separate walls). My older boy Max was like your dog and allowed the younger one, Teddy, to push him away from his food and force him to eat in the new place. I decided that this was a small part of our jealousy problem, so I stepped in and forced Teddy to eat from the dishes in the new spot, while Max always eats in his usual place. Whenever one boy goes for the other one's dish, I gently say, "ah, ah, ah, that is Max's food" or "that is Teddy's food." Sometimes I would have to physically slide them on the floor to their appropriate dish. It took about 2 weeks before they went to their respective spots and consistently left the other's food alone. As I wrote before, they still will tease each other and steal a kibble or two, but they never chow down in the wrong bowl. Give training a try. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | AWE!!! What an adorable picture! I just feed HealthyPetNet Premium Natural Healthy Dog Foods and leave my bowl down 24/7 and they all eat from it when they feel like it. The greedy ones loose interest once they see they don't get a reaction. Since I feed an all life stage food my pups and moms all eat it. It takes time but now no one tries to eat it all. when its down 24/7 they eventually loose that interest of being the piggy! lol (well mine did) Quote:

| Feeding two dogs I was training them to eat out of separate dishes before I separated them. I just didn't know if that was the best thing or not. Ms Piggy (Tia) can really eat; I don't know if she would ever give up if I didn't monitor her. Once she gets her nose into Ally's dish, Ally doesn't go to the other dish, she just gives up. They are so different...just like children! Thanks. I'll try this again once everyone is out of quarantine. |
