| Health Risk? How much of a health risk is it to take my dogs, who have the minimum vaccs (i.e no bordetella), to pet stores and let them ride in the shopping carts? Our first vet told me not to take them. I like taking Maximo in particular because it is our goofy way of socializing/desensitizing him with larger dogs, something we can't do safely at home. Today he went nose to nose from inside the cart with some big dogs. |

| Jackson never had bordatella vaccine until he was over a year old. But I've been taking him to pet stores since he was probably 5 months old, dog parks since 6 months old and he never got anything (he had DHPP and rabies of course). He got kennel cough once but it was from being at my dads house and there were a ton of dogs that roam around that he came in contact with and one had it. He also has always walked on the floor and never got anything. We try to go to a pet store at least once every 2 weeks.

| I agree with the vet...you'd be taing a risk; but Ellie doesn't get the vaccine and I'd probably put her in a cart. She goes to the vet's too and is hospitalized without it. And we go to dog events, etc.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | the bordatella vaccine only protects again like 2 strains out of 6 i think, so technically even with the vaccine your dog can get sick. Morgan hasn't gotten vaccines since she was 2 (now 4). She goes everywhere with me in her carrier. i don't put her in carts or anything of public use. but i do take her to the dog park and work with me at the grooming shop. she also used to go with me to the hospital when i was a tech. soooo...

| Thank you everyone for your input. I always feel torn trying to protect my pups without stifling them and making them live like the boy in the plastic bubble. |

| Lady doesn't get vaccinations anymore because of her weak immune system and age, but I do take her to Petsmart. I either take her in my Fundle or line the bottom of the cart w/a blanket with if she is going to ride in it. I also don't let strange dogs approach us no matter where we go or how I carry her. People are usually very understanding when I tell them she is diabetic and prone to getting sick. |
