| Jax won't eat! My 11 week old puppy Jax won't eat. We have had him for about one week and he has been great. Eating the kibble that the breeders gave us then two days ago he had a severe bout with hypoglycemia. I don't know why he did this because I have been diligent with his nutrical and making sure he was eating for this specific reason. Anyway....after getting him back (thank goodness!) he doesn't seem to want to eat his food. The first day I think his tummy was upset by all the syrup he was given to snap him out of his episode but I am starting to get worried. I feel like I am bombarding him with all types of food but I need him to eat something. I have tried wet food, dry with warm water, baby food, puppy treats, and finally last night boiled chicken. He gobbled the chicken up! My question is...how long do I contiinue the chicken? This doesn't seem like a very balanced diet....chicken and nutrical but I am desperate. Does anyone have any more ideas. Should I get him to eat anything I can or worry about switching his foods so much? Could it be he is still 'recovering' from his hypoglycemic episode. BTW, it was really, really bad! I have been so scared to take my eyes off of him! I have been feeding him every 2-3 hours-chicken and nutrical. I feel like this is way too much nutrical but I am afraid I am going to lose him. He is drinking water and urinating well. His poo is a bit 'sticky' and soft but that is understandable due to all that nutrical. I need help. I am exhausted and I am starting to feel as if I cannot take care of this baby. Will it always be this much work and worry? He is 11 weeks old and weighs around 1-1.5lbs. Thanks to anyone who responds! Tamra |

| It won't always be that hard he is very young. Has he been vet checked with a stool analysis? Also is he on a good quality dog food. When Pixie was that young I use to give her a little wet food in with her kibble and if she wouldn't eat I would let her lick it off my finger. I use to give Pixie nutri-cal before bed for the first month. I free fed Pixie bc I was worried that she wasn't eating enough. Does your little one act lethargic? If so call the vet asap bc something else could be going on with him. When they are that small it is important to have a stool analysis bc of parasites passed on from the mother. Another thing I did not let a lot of people handle Pixie when she was that small, I waited until she had all her vaccinations.

| He went to the vet today and received a good bill of health sort of He is very tiny but otherwise doing well. He does have ear mites that could have been adding to the stress. He is not on a high quality food. In fact, his breeder had him on purina puppy chow. I tried to switch his food to something better but my vet told me since he has been so sick, not to do that yet. Is this okay? Purina puppy chow does not seem like a great choice to me. |

| You never know he may like it a little better bc it is higher quality. I mean I am no Vet but I know that I put Pixie on wellness just for puppy when I got her and I slowly changed the food. I did it like this: Step 1 Day 1 - 3: Mix 75% old dog food with 25% new dog food.
Step 2 Day 4 - 6: Mix 50% old dog food with 50% new dog food.
Step 3 Day 7 - 9: Mix 75% new dog food with 25% old dog food.
Step 4 Day 10: Feed 100% of the new dog food brand.
Step 5 This slow schedule will allow your dog to adjust to the new food without indigestion, diarrhea, or constipation.
Step 6 Consult with your veterinarian if there are any problems during this transition period and follow his advice. If you have any leftover old dog food, you can throw it into your yard for the birds
This information is on ehow here is the linkHow to Transition to a New Dog Food in 10 Days | eHow.com

| I know exactly what you're going thru because i'm going thru it with my minnie's right now only she's 8 months!!! i don't understand her and she won't eat anything too but the chicken and nutra. my vet told me to not give her the chicken but she seems so skinny. i've been thru so many foods and she won't even taste it!!! She ate cat food at my mom's, cat food! Baxer's mom got me a sample of life's abundance and minnie liked the wet food so i'm getting some of that delivered for now and taking minnie to the vet on sat. But don't worry everything will be fine. my vet assured me that they won't starve themselves and eventually they will eat. But check out the life's abundance, it's really good and natural. I hope it wasn't a one time shot with the minns. where's the pictures so we can see |
