| Issues Hi, The following happens to our 11 month old male Yorkie: He is neutered but is still inclined to hump. One morning his penis was half stuck outside his body and he was wincing in pain, crying sharply when picked up, hiding from us, etc. We had to put it inside by using a cold cloth. For a few minutes after his body was shaking and then he returned to normal. The shaking was almost like muscle spasms in his lower body. The same thing happened again the next day after humping. He was hiding and shaking for a few minutes and then was fine. This time his penis went back in on its own. We went to the vet who had NO CLUE about what we were talking about and basically chalked it up to an extended orgasm and, oh, by the way, he has an irregular heart beat that no one has ever noticed before in previous check ups, so full blood work and an ECG is in order. We don't agree and will get a second opinion next week, but was wondering fi anyone had anything similar happen? It just happened again when we came in tonight. He was standing with tail between legs, hunched over, and hesitant to approach us. I noticed his penis was sticking out maybe an inch and used some cold water and cloth to put it back in. Then he sat there shaking for a couple mins and is normal again afterwards, bouncing off the walls as per the norm. Your input is appreciated thanks |

| Boys right? You might want to keep some KY Jelly on hand for those kinds of situations. It's better for them. Also, since he is a humper, it could also be that when his penis wants to go home, some hair gets in the way making it harder for the skin to go over his penis. My boy gets over excited also. He's definitely not a humper, but he gets excited when I come home, when we play (and I have no idea what triggers it since it's not always there), and a few times when he wakes up in the morning. There's nothing wrong with him, he just has a over active Mr Peeper.

| Some times their penis gets dry and can not go back in, you can sit him in a warm tub of water to re-moisten it and wash any debris off it. It will take a few minutes and go back in by its self. But a cold cloth on the warm body that might be what is causing him to shake like that, be careful you might shock the body.

i wouldn't use cold water as its a shock to their system. you want to put some lube on it and gently pull the sheath back up over the penis. when you can, discourage him from humping toys and beds, or whatever he prefers, so you can lessen the times this happens.

| Hi, Thanks for all 3 of your responses. As a note, the shaking occurred naturally without my helping with cold water the first two times. I am concerned that the top part of his penis was out for the duration of the entire night the first morning (perhaps) before the vet tech put it back in. How would I know if the penis required amputation per some threads regarding paraphimosis? My confusion si it is said paraphimosis can lead to amputation but the question that remains unanswered is why?? And is this only for full erections , or the small parts that still remain out on my neutered dog? |
