| How often should puppy urinate? We've had Nikko home since Monday evening, he's 5 1/2 months old. His appetite isn't great and he doesn't appear to be drinking that much, but I don't know what's "normal" as far as drinking goes. He has access to his food (same he was eating with the breeder) and water at all times. He urinated on his pee pad in his playpen overnight the first night(Monday), then again mid morning and a third time yesterday evening. When I got up today after my husband went to work he had urinated again on the pad in his playpen (but he hadn't gone when my husband was up earlier with him). He had 2 bowel movements also yesterday. He seems to be acting "normal" enough. He likes to sleep on my lap a lot but if I try to put him in his playpen so I can get some work done around the house he barks like crazy and jumps all over, so I don't think he's lethargic! I'm so new to this breed that I'm just not sure what to expect. I hate to keep harassing the breeder, although I know I can call her or shoot over an email at any time. Does this sound like enough peeing to anyone experienced? I'm thinking maybe since he's a little older he's able to hold it longer than a younger pup? |

| it sounds pretty normal to me he is 51/2 months they say they can hold it an hr for every month that they are. Like 3 months 3 hrs. and etc. I would entice drinking by putting some ice in his water and you can add water to his food as well. Are you sure he is not sneaking and peeing in some secret spot. My Pixie did this to me I thought she hadn't peed for 10 hrs when she was around 5 months and I found her secret spot so she was caught out!! lol

| Thanks for the response! I haven't discovered any secret spot yet, but I'll definitely be on the lookout! I was amazed by the amount that he's going though, the "puddles" are larger than I had expected from such a little dog haha! |

| I agree if you want him to drink add ice, for some reason it always makes them want more. |
