| Do anyone else's Yorkies do this? Every time Rucker drinks water (or a lot of it at one time) he throws up. If he doesn't throw up, he will gag a lot. Just wondering if this is common.

| When Max was very young, he would gag and cough a little when he drank water because he was snorting it through his nose and drinking too fast. It was a puppy thing. If Rucker is throwing up and gagging every single time, I would have him checked by the vet. |

| I do notice that Pixie does that when she drinks real fast or after exercise and then drinks a lot of water she will gag or throw up a little. I really think it is no big deal. We tend to worry more with these little ones

| If you've had him checked by your vet and everything is o.k. you might try using a water bottle...that way he couldn't drink so much or so fast and it might help. |

| I had a poodle who did this and it was a sign of a collapsed trachea... I would recommend having your pup checked out by a vet.

| Indy is 6.5 months old and that has happened twice when she drank a lot of water in one go. Both times I was surprised at how much she drank so quickly. Both incidents were isolated and she didn't seem sick in any other way.

| Jax does that as well. After his zoomies he drinks a ton of water and then will start gagging and once in awhile he'll puke it up. I think its normal (just as when we drink a lot of water too quick and it comes back up in a burp..) but it never hurts to ask a vet!

| If it's is because of the speed, then most likely everything is fine. Drinking at a slow/normal pace and doing that could indicate a problem and I would tell your vet.

| So I'm going to try to bring this one up to the top again. My little guy does the same thing! He gets so excited when we come inside or I first get home when he's been playing that he gets really thirsty and drinks so fast that he throws up!! I know it's not a big deal, but it is a mess and it's a bit annoying! One person mentioned giving him water through a water bottle but what kind of water bottle do you use? I tried using one that I bought at Wal-Mart, but it just made a big mess. My roommate sometimes puts his water on a big plate instead of a bowl, but he can drink even that really fast. I just want to find a way to get him to SLOW DOWN!! |
