| Is it normal for yorkies to act weird after a dose of Advantage Multi? I just put it on her and she's acting so weird. She's rolling around and rubbing herself onto curtains n scratching the curtains n bedding. Does it also make them sleepy afterwards? Last edited by Yuna; 05-15-2010 at 01:42 PM. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | We used to use that and Izzy would roll all round etc.. But we stopped using it because it does NOT protect from ticks...So we are now using Revolution...So far so good..No troubles with that!!

| I've seen the rolling and rubbing like after a bath behavior, but the sleepiness concerns me; I would put a call in to my vet or an ER Vet right away...

Donating YT 30K Club Member | How is she doing now? I have never had mine have a reaction to flea/heartworm medicine. If she is still acting strange I would call your vet. You may want to post this in the sick and injured thread and maybe someone will have a better answer.

| I use Advantage multi on my two and they have never had any type of reaction. They don't even act like they know I put it on them. Is this the first time you have used it? I would call my vet it sounds like she is having an adverse reaction to it. It may be burning her skin.

| Mine sometimes roll around and scratch... you are putting something wet on them and some dogs it bothers more than others... if your pup appears too tired or lethargic however, I would be concerned... make sure you keep a close eye out for any signs of distress.

| This is my first time doing it myself. She had the dose put on her before by the vet when she had her 2nd set of puppy shots. She did minor rolling and scratching, but I really didn't think much of it because she was still playing. Now, today, I put it on her. She did start rolling a lot and acting all weird/ crazy, but she still played. She seems fine now. I think the vet told me that the dosage was gonna make her feel like bugs are crawling over her? I'll have to ask to make sure because I am not 100% he said that. I'll ask the vet on Monday since they're closed now. Thank you all for your responses. Last edited by Yuna; 05-15-2010 at 04:46 PM. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It sounds like an allergic reaction to the med. Especially in light of the reaction being stronger this (2nd ) dose vs the first. The itching, rolling and scratching sound like a clasic topical reaction. The neurological symptoms are more concerning. The meds ARE toxins. They can be absorbed through the skin, but is it possible he licked the area and ingested it? Google "neurological side effects Advantix". Is there an emergency vet near you? If he's still acting lethargic I would at least call them and possibly bring him in. I wouldn't wait till Monday. I think you can also make a case to your vet that this is not a medication he should be continued on. |

| The way I would go about telling is to put something non toxic but wet in the same spot. If there is no rolling around, you know the drug is doing something that is making her uncomfortable. Some of these things can make them feel like bugs are crawling on them, but that is usually said about permethrin which AM doesn't contain. Either way, if it is only the drug that causes this, I personally would not use it. Actually, I wouldn't use AM at all.
