| Hi, Sophie Kate just finished getting her Canine Flu shots series with no side effects. My Vet recommends it for dogs who go to groomers, daycare, dog parks or are boarded (Sophie Kate is all of thee above).

| No, no, no and no!!!!! This is not a core vaccination. Only core vaccines are recommended for toy breeds. Corona, giardia, the dental vaccination and the canine flu are all outside of this. Other specialties such as Lepto also pose a high risk of reaction. If you read any current protocol being taught at all 27 major vet schools, core vaccines for toy breeds along with DHPP being given at 3 year intervals (following puppy shots and the initial booster) are all that are recommended. I feel like a broken record saying this, but toy breed dogs are NOT like other breeds. They have special needs based on their size. Vets that do not follow the protocol being currently taught (especially the 3 year DHPP) are obviously interested only in their profitability and are not well versed in toy breed care (IMO). Vaccinating more often than necessary puts needly toxins (ie; POISON) into your pet's system which can result in many long-term medical conditions. Keep in mind that vaccinated every 3 years does not mean to forgo a yearly wellness check.

| I try to adhere to Dr. Dodds protocol as much as possible and certainly dont give anything that isnt a core vaccine, so no I would not do canine flu.

| My vet told me that canine flu is different than human flu....your dog has to come in contact with another dog that has the flu.....that being said, no flu shot.

| It's new and we don't have any long term studies available for it yet (am I missing something?). Just wouldn't even consider giving this at all. There is enough over vaccinating already going on (imo).

| Thanks one and all for your input and wonderful knowledge. It is really appreciated! I was thinking he was being a bit extreme..... He will just have to be upset with me again I guess..... lol He is going to be upset with me anyway when I tell him not more shots except Rabies for my babies! Have been reading alot on immunizations lately. Duration of immunity is alot longer than alot of vets believe..... Or is it a profitability issue do you think??
