| Collapsing Trachea I am interested in what you learn also. My 9 year-old boy, Shy, also suffers from that occasionally, and it's kind of scary at times. Problem I'm having right now is that he was barking alot yesterday when we had people here, and he is breathing much heavier now, like he has a sore throat. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | yorkie coughs Hi my 6 month old yorkie coughs also. I was first told it was a reverse sneeze, but it is not. He coughs after playing and after walks, he tugs and I think his harness cuts against his throat. I have tried several harnesses and still seem to have the problem. My vet has never hears the cough but first thought it was kennel cough. I am very worried about this and also would like advice. He also coughs up white foamy mucus on occasion. helpful information appreciated. thanks |

| Have you had his heart checked? My IG was coughing, especially when excited. The vet did a chest xray and her heart was enlarged and she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, but she actually has mitral valve prolapse and her right atrium is quite large. She goes to an internist now. I hope you can find some relief for Bobby. It's distressing to see them uncomfortable.

Now when she has an allergic reaction or when she's been barking a lot she starts having trouble swallowing or coughs. I give her doctor-prescribed meds -- a quarter of a prednisone pill and a quarter of a zantac to keep her tummy soothed.... crushed and mixed into a half a teaspoon of honey. Kasey usually feels better within an hour, but it's scary to watch her in distress. I worry about her. Hope this info helps you too.

| Prince has a severe case of collapsing trachea, although he doesn't cough. He has a lot of trouble inhaling at times. Like you, we have had Prince on several different meds, been in and out of our emergency animal hospital and his vet. He is taking aminophylline (1/4 pill) in the morning and (1/4 pill) torbutrol at night. He also has a steroid that he takes when he is having a really rough time. We try to keep him calm, watch his food intake and limit his activities. Every case of CT is different, so you have to find what works for your baby. This is truly a nightmare. It is so hard watching him struggle to breath. (Oh, if you have a lot of stairs, you may want to carry him up/down them. Prince would have an episode if we let him run up and down ours.)

Kasey is not yet five years old, and is very active. Loves to play and run, but gets into trouble when she's been barking too much (a real problem, when she sees big dogs, since she wants to eat them for lunch) or when her allergies act up.
