Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Weight gain mystery SOLVED! We knew Rhett was going to be a bigger boy when we got him. But in the past 4 weeks, he's gained a full pound. That seemed a little excessive. Today I think I figured out why. I had been feeding him twice as much as the bag recommended! Somehow I misread it and thought it said to give X amount twice a day...when what it really said was to give X amount divided twice a day. And Rhett ate every little bit of it! Now I'm going to have to convince him that we need to cut back a tad. |

| haha... mine wouldnt turn down the extra food either Good Luck with the weight loss... also you can try adding things like green beans that have no calories but make them think they are getting more food then they are.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Since he's so young, I'm not going to try and have him lose any weight. But we definitely need to slow down the curve! And he LOVES frozen green beans (cut in to tiny pieces, of course). We use those as his training treats. He sees me cutting them up and goes right in to his "sit" position. |

| Glad you solved the mystery. I agree green peas may be an excellent way to address this situation.

| How old is he? I am assuming still a pup, and in that case they do go thru growth spurts. Puppies are so active, they usually burn it off and balance out to whatever the weight should be. It is also possible for them to shoot up in appetite and weight over certain months, then plateau out during others. I personally don't believe in restricting food for puppies, and I always free feed so they don't have to chomp it all down at once, and they can nibble through out the day. It works for me, but if you have one who eats every single bite, then probably not the best for you.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | He's 16 weeks. I can't free-feed him because the other 2 dogs would make a bee line for his dish if I leave it down. Not that there is ever anything left in his bowl, though. He's also figured out that good things come from the big silver box in the kitchen...Every time I walk in there, he plops himself down in front of the fridge |

He may just be genetically programed to be larger or he may have just had a growth spurt. He will grow at the rate he is genetically programed to be. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I'm not going to put him on a diet- I'm just going to feed him the proper amount based on his weight. I do believe he is going to be a bigger boy, but I don't need to add any unhealthy weight to it. |

| I guess he really loved getting all of that kibble for awhile then. To him it's going to be a diet.
