| Missed Vaccination Year Booster for Distemper and Parvo...Please Help Unfortunately Kona missed her year booster for her vaccines including distemper, parvo and rabies. She received her core puppy vaccines at 9 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks and her rabies around 24 weeks. She was supposed to go back in June for her year booster on all. Unfortunately I was unaware that she needed the year booster as I was trying to follow Dr. Jean Dodds Recommended Vaccine Schedule but unfortunately misunderstood that Kona needed the year booster after the last puppy series shot to build the immunity. When I took Kona in to get spayed around the end of February the Vet is the one that pointed out that she had missed her boosters and that usually you can go a few months after when they are supposed to get the 1 year booster, but that it had been so long that she said that Kona would need to repeat the series of the distemper parvo and receive one shot and then come back in 3-4 weeks for the second distemper parvo booster. I got her rabies that day and waited to do the parvo/distemper in a few weeks. Because the vet I went to for the spay is expensive for an office visit I went to a low cost vet to get her the parvo/distemper and when I asked the vet about returning for the second booster in a few weeks the woman said no need to come, that the one parvo/distemper shot was fine. So now I am extremely confused…I want Kona to be protected and properly vaccinated...so I kind of want to follow the first vets advice, but I also do not want to over vaccinate her. My main question is do I need to get her the second part of the Distemper/Parvo series? *Its been 3 weeks so she would be due for the next one if you guys recommend that she get it. Now that I have messed up her vaccine schedule by her not receiving the 1 year booster is she no longer going to be properly immune for around 7 years like mentioned by Dr. Jean Dodd?

| I would contact dr dodds on Hemopet/Hemolife, HEMOPET a full animal blood bank, Diagnostic Laboratory, Adoption and Consultation and she is near you so i would have her do all your blood work and titers - i drive to her to get this done as you are not too far from me. I do not agree with first vet no need to do series of shots. just a heads up my dd had only her 6 month shots due to health issues and i have titered her for 5 years and she is fine with that one series and we had a plumber come into our home who had a dog at home that had parvo which scared me to death and no issue and she is on immune suppressed drugs steroids so check with jean to see what is safest as you do not want to over vaccinate for sure that i do know but just wanted to share with you so you do not worry about it. My other two had one year boosters and then i have titered them for years as well. My maltese did not have her one year booster at one year as she was a rescue and i rescued her at 8 months and she did not even have her last puppy shot and i took her to vet had her titered through cornell university and she was low so i did the parvo distemper shot to make sure and since then titer her - also better to do two separate vaccines anyway not the combo if you can find a vet that does that as our vet does do that here so if you want to drive up here for that I know for a fact she does the parvo and the distemper separately but she will charge you for two office visits unfortunately |

| Giving two sets four weeks apart woldn't be a big problem, but how about doing one, waiting a couple-few weeks and then titering?

| Thank you guys so much for all of your help!! I was freaking out last night because I read an article in a local dog newsletter stating that animal control in the area was warning people about a large number of distemper cases in raccoons and other wild animals in the Los Angeles County (http://www.presstelegram.com/ci_1480...rce=rss)...And I know I've seen like a group of 6 of them roaming my neighborhood streets I really wanted to see a reputable veterinarian and why not just go straight to the best Thank you for the link to her website! Making an appointment asap for the titers! Thank you dwerten and ellie may so much!!!
