| Tears under the eyes? Ok sorry sorry sorry for all the questions but I have one mooore!!! What is the best way to get rid of the dry tears under a Yorkie's eyes? The only way I can get them out without pulling her hair out is after a bath...But I'd like a solution for more often.... ...should I cut the hair there? As for doing it with a wet towel or tissue, she doesn't sit still!!!! How do you guys clean them? Any tips welcome!!!

Senior Yorkie Talker | I have the same issue with my baby girl. normally straight after a bath i dry them off with a towel to clean excess tears away and i try to keep the hair around the eyes short. you must just be really careful if doing it yourself. try and find blunt-nosed scissors that do not have that fierce point at the end to protect the eyes. Taylor is used to it now and sits super still. My Maltese lost her eye after a trip to the parlour because they bumped her in the eye. the other thing i got for her is ear and eye wipes - they're like baby wipes but made specially for dogs. i clean out her eyes and ears daily with them. even a little warm water and a cottom wool pad will help wash the eye

| Hmm...don't know if they have the special dog wipes in Greece, I will have to go to a big brand name pet shop to see if they do.... I'd like to try trimming them, the hair sticks out in front of her eyes anyway but I'm so scared I'll hurt her ear! She's so tiny (still a pup) so maybe it's not a good idea yet... I'll try and find the wipes...

| Hi, I had the same problem. After his last grooming I switched his water to bottled and that helped his eyes and I wash his face every morning. He's so used to it now that he sits by the bathroom door when he hears the faucet while I'm getting ready for work. I just use his wash cloth and warm water. So far so good. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Good point! Im in South Africa but im sure even a baby wipe will do the same thing??? the ones i buy are probably just put into a different package and marked as doggie wipes! as long as they wont burn the eyes...try some warm water and cotton wool these dogs get used to it. i tried to brush Taylor's teeth the other day and she FLIPPED out! the next day she was a little better...the third day she opened her mouth for me and sat there and let me do it! she is the same with her hair now... good luck! Take it slow and get her used to new sounds and smells slowly it's a scary world when you're so little

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This site has some great information on causes and cures for eye tears and staining. Depending on what the problem is, different methods work, many puppies will have tearing while teething, and sometimes the problem is resolved with distilled water. A dogs pH can be off, and more acid works on some dogs, (a little vinegar) and some dogs need more alkaline (tums). Joey had a problem with a food, and a food switch helped eliminated the problem. If the area is wet all the time, it's best to find the cause because this can lead to yeast infections. Tear Staining: The Causes & Cures

| My Theo has the same problem with eye staining. I use baby wipes now to gently clean his eyes and they work like a charm. Please be cautious if you buy commercial dog tear solutions. Where I live, in Oman, choice of top dog brands/products is limited at best. I picked up one brand - the only one they had - at the local pet store and was shocked that the key ingredient was borax acid. Borax acid! Not for my baby's eyes! |

| I started giving Chloe distilled water to drink and her tears almost completely went away. The only time her eyes water now is sometimes after a walk when the wind has been blowing hard and then it is just water, not crusty stuff. -C
