| all home made food diet. I was reading in the forums about all homemade food diets, and read that you have to add supplements to the food. I was wondering what supplements I should get? I have always made home made treats, and have decided on maybe starting to make food. Any input is appreciated.

| Hi Sara Supplementation for a home cooked diet can be difficult and very time consuming. There is a product called Balance It that makes things easier. You can pull a diet from Welcome to Pet Diets for use with that supplementation product for about $25 (for healthy dogs with NO known digestive problems). Supplementation is hard - I've done it for years and it's time consuming. We just started to use Balance It for two dogs on medical diets and one healthy dog. Each dog has different supplement needs because each has a different diet. So the supplements change as the ingredients change. Good luck!

| I home cook for Cerise and she loves it. I have also research many recipes and there is another member here Yorkiedaze who is a master home cooker. I have her supplement recipe that she makes. It's enough to last for many weeks for one dog.

| I feed homemade raw with lean hamburger, ground turkey or ground venison along with sardines, eggs, cottage cheese, rice and a vegetable. For supplements - I add bone meal, potassium, safflower oil, a multivitamin and fish oil caplet (in the event I don't use the sardines). Its not difficult to add the supplements at all - you just need to find exactly what is required for your specific recipe.
