| Help, Romeo is feeling sick Romeo doesn't seem himself today. The last couple of days his stools have been really soft but I didn't worry too much because he continued to eat like a little pig and acted his usual self. But this afternoon (of course Saturday afternoon when the vet is closed for the weekend) he is just not himself. He is laying in the kitchen on the floor in a sunny spot. He will come if we call him but not in his usual perky way. He just threw up what looked like his dog food. He is not coughing and does not have a runny nose. I looked up vomiting and diarrhea in dogs and the internet said to take all food and water away for several hours and than offer just water to see if it stays down. Next offer white rice and chicken. I wanted to hear from Yorkie experts. What do you do when your little ones are sick? Thanks

| He might just have a upset tummy. I wouldn't take his water away. When Princess had her tummy upset, I took her to see the vet, he said her tummy was upset for some reason. I gave her a little rice & chicken that afternoon, and at night I fed her her food. The next day she was fine. Did he eat something different the past few days? I hope he feels better soon. sending him hugs. (((((((Romeo)))))))

| I think you have some good advice to start with. But there are a lot of factors. How old is he? How much does he weigh? Did he get into anything that he shouldn't have been eating? |

| They also can be very emotional and sensitive. One of my girls had diarrhea the last couple of days. Her diet was the same as always, but she was upset because her sister had gone to the vet for an operation and was gone for a day. Now, her stools are back to normal. Poor little guys! |

| When Chachi had diahrea the vet didnt have us take the water away but had us fast him on food one half day. I would follow up with the chicken and rice cause they are really a small dog and cant go very long with fasting. My vet said you really cant fast these small dogs like you can the larger dogs because of hypoglycemia. He gave us keopectate too and an antibiotic.

This is such an excellent point. So often I myself forget that Yorkie's are very "emotional and sensitive". Thank you for bringing this to our attention. love our addi - I hope your Romeo feels better soon. Id keep his water dish down so he can drink and be monitored to make sure he is doing so. It is not safe to become dehydrated. With loose stools it easily/quickly can happen. Id monitor him for a day or so and if you see no improvement or his temp isn't right, id call to see his vet.

| Thanks for all the advice. Romeo is 7 months old and weighs almost 4 pounds. He eats everything that is on the floor. He loves to catch bugs outside and try as I might sometimes he eats them before I can get to him. I think he was a goat in a previous life. I am afraid that he ate something to make his tummy upset but I don't think it could be anything too bad. When he is outside we always stay right with him. I will keep his water out. In a little bit I am going to try the rice. Thanks everyone, I will let you know how he is feeling.

| My little Rowdy will also eat anything and everything on the floor/ground. He used to eat every June Bug he could catch - I was always pulling something out of his mouth. He'd also have a day or so when he acted like he didn't feel good and I always supposed it was some bug he'd eaten that didn't agree with him. I still occasionally find a throw up spot around. I do exactly like others suggested, give him chicken and rice after a few hours and when he won't eat that, I know he is really sick and take him to the vet.

| Try Pepto He will hate it, but a quarter of a teaspoon might help his tummy and his loose stools. I use it on my boys (8 pounders) whenever they get a tummy upset only I give them a half a teaspoon. Chicken and rice is good until it settles down a bit. I have one that will eat anything and another that sniffs at everything you offer him as if he has to check it out to make sure that I am not poisoning him. |

| Glad to report that Romeo is back to his usual self today. He must have eaten something that upset his stomach but I am not sure what. It is amazing how they bounce back so quickly. Thanks everyone!
