| He's not eating dog food My puppy Dega is 8 months old. He is very good dog but a really bad eater. He seems to hate dog food. We have put the food up after 30 minutes. Doesn't Work. When he was a puppy he was hypoglycemic So I am really worried. We have played with the food to maybe dress it up. It doesn't do anything for him. I haven't taking him to the vet because his energy level is still really high he doesnt seem sick or that anything is wrong. Is this something that I should have checked out to make sure he's okay. I am a first time pet owner so this worries me. Sorry for the long paragraph. Thanks for help Stephanie |

| Yorkies can be very picky eaters, especially if they get human food. Have you tried a lot of different dog foods? My Shelby was picky when she was younger but she loves Nutro Lamb/Rice. Also Natural Balance Meat Rolls. Petco and Petsmart had free sample sizes of nutro recently, you might call and see if they have any? Petco carries the NB meatroll in 99 cent sample sizes. Good luck! |

| My two would never eat when I put their food out. So now we leave it out all the time and they eat a little bit here and there. But they have never just sit and ate a dish all at once just nibbles all day. Now when I fix them up a bowl of rice and chicken they will eat that until its gone lol. |

| Though I don't have Yorkies, I do have poms which are very picky eaters. I usually just leave the bowl out all day and let the 'free feed' and let them eat when THEY are hungry. I have heard that a lot of small breeds just eat a little here and there and are not really set to feeding times.

| My Rowdy is a picky eater - and when he was littler (he's almost 8 months old now) I worried like crazy when he wouldn't eat. I found that I could not make him eat at a specified time (like others on here mentioned) so I had to leave his food out all day and he would nibble throughout the day. This was problematic because I have an old dog who LOVED the puppy food. Finally, I just let the old dog have puppy food. Now, I free feed both of them and I have no idea how much Rowdy eats, but he is a healthy weight (4 lbs), he runs, plays, poops, etc and I just don't worry any more because he LOOKS like he is getting enough to eat. I will say though, that he LOVES meat, which is actually good for him so I do give him backed chicken or steak from time to time. I'm going to include a recipie for satin balls - it is a hamburger mixture that is supposed to be very good for dogs. Apparently people who show dogs feed it a lot. The information says that it is very nutritious and will put weight on a dog and that even picky dogs will eat it. I know that Rowdy LOVES them! Satin Balls Half Recipe -- recommended amount to mix up 5 lbs cheap hamburger (for high fat %) 1/2 large box Total cereal (about 6 cups cereal) 1/2 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 7.5 cups oats) 5 raw eggs 1/2 of 15oz jar wheat germ (about 2 cups) 5 packages Knox unflavored gelatin 5/8 cup vegetable oil (this is pretty close to 2/3 cup) 5/8 cup unsulphered molasses pinch of salt Take all dry ingredients and place in a bowl. Crunch up the total cereal, and then pour all the other dry ingredients over it. In a another large bowl put the hamburger meat and the wet ingredients. Mix each bowl well, then mix together. Mix just like you would a meatloaf. Roll into small balls. The original recipie says that the meat balls are supposed to be fed raw – but I cook mine – about 5 minutes in a 350 oven. Then I put the balls in a freezer bag and store them flat in the freezer (meaning that I only put a few balls into each bag so that the balls lie flat and don’t stick together so that I can take one or two out at a time as I need them). I take out a bag or just some balls when I need them and heat a few seconds in the microwave. If you google "satin balls" you will find more information on them. Apparently, they are supposed to be a complete food and if your dog ate only satin balls, it would be fine. I don't know about that, but I know that Rowdy loves them!

| You could try mixing shredded cheese or cottage cheese with his food to get him to eat it. Both of my dogs are picky eaters and they eat Royal canin mini bites and Lil caesars just fine.

| Sami has 5 bags of dog food(puppy) that he will not eat, although if tilly is eating her food and I am in the room and stand there when I fill both their bowls(tilly eats his) then he will pick up one little morsel maybe 8 pieces in all! and I always worry he is skinny he's no eating enough protein yada yada.. So at costo I had bought cans of chicken to make myself chicken salad sndwch's and I thought what the heck it's people food but it is real chicken with protein So in the evenings I break it up (simular to tuna in a can) and he loves it! now I don't worry as much and you get 5 large cans for 10.99?(don't remember) I save it in a container in its on liquid in the fridge. |

| I would just leave dry food down all day for him, since he doesn't seem like he'll be a chow hound! Then if he still hasn't eaten try some "Wellness" canned. My boys just love it. Put a tiny bit down and see if he goes for it, if not leave it there for a while, that way if you have to throw it out your not wasting so much at one time...

| Hey- I would NOT recommend feeding your yorkie anything high in fat content- no matter if you think it is good or not! My older yorkie went through a painful bout of pancreatitis because we thought red meat would be good for her. Bottom line is - if it is high in fat content, those little ones can't digest it. Stick to a high grade dog food and call it a day. When they are hungry, they'll eat. |

| You could also make the satin balls with low fat hamburger - which would be just fine. Also, most high quality dog foods are 15-18% fat and and you could get hamburger of the same fat content. Seems like it would be a potential solution for a dog that will NOT eat dog food, and yes, there are some who won't.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | stephanie, if he's still healthy and energetic then he is eating just not in the amounts you would notice. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless I saw something amiss. some yorkies eat less than others. i free feed mine and though i seldom see them eat, they do.

| I never see Princess eat, unless I make her chicken. We have their food out all day, so they eat when they want too, If he's healthy, I'm sure he's eating. Yorkies are very picky eaters. They don't eat a lot, so I bet he is eating some. Please keep us posted.
