| Throwing up, weezing My Puppy Is 9 weeks old, recently developed a weezing cough and last night she threw up flem and white foam substance repeativly.. we took her to the ER and they kept her over night for observation and I.V. fluids. Well now she is making a sort of snorting noise when she is laying down mostly and I constantly hear her stomach rumble. Any idea what this could be? She's also sneezing a lot ... they tested for parvo and said it wasn't kennel cough |

When did you bring her home? What are you feeding her? Has she been checked out by your regular vet? Any vaccinations given recently? What did the ER vet advise? Have you contacted your pup's breeder?

| Thank you so much for the quick reply! We brought her home Sunday morning.. the vet said we will probably never know why/what happened and to keep up with her anti vomiting medicine. He told us to stick with her food her breeder was giving her (puppy chow) which I know is horrible! and if she didn't eat it to try a boiled chicken and rice diet which she loved. I also bought pedialyte and have been squirting it into her mouth with the medicine injector because she's not drinking much water. When she was 6 weeks she had the Intra-nasal Bordetella vaccine and first set of parvo shots with her breeders vet. Last night she was very restless and crying a bit while weezing which was my biggest concern. |

| I'm glad that you have the pedialyte and that your baby ate chicken and rice. Sounds like you are doing the right things -- keeping a close eye on her for dehydration and breathing. I would make an appointment as soon as possible with a regular vet, preferably one with small dog experience. New pups should have a general exam anyway within 24 -48 hours of picking up from the breeder. Plus, you need to establish a schedule for future vaccinations. I would also call the breeder and discuss the problems with that person. Definitely go see a regular vet...and keep this thread updated with your little one's progress. |

| One more bit of advice: keep your pup's environment peaceful. New owners are understandably very excited and usually want to take their pup everywhere and introduce them to everyone -- but this can be very stressful for the dog that is adjusting to a new home and new mommy. I'm not saying this is the cause of your pup's illness, but stress can make it worse. |

| Thank you so much for your advise! I took her into the vet yesterday (not our normal doctor we cant see him until wed.) and they put her on an anti-biotic called doxycycline. The ER vet did a full blood work up so we had them fax the results to this vet. The only thing that was a little high was her kidney levels, they didn't go into much detail about it though. She also gave her some kind of upset stomach shot she didn't mention the name and it wasn't on the bill. She's a little better today, her stomach stills makes noises and she gets very weak very fast but is back to normal when given pedialyte. I will let you know what our vet says wed. By the way, what do you personally feed your yorkies? When she is feeling better I am hoping to switch her to a high quality dog food since her breeder choose puppy chow.. I've been reading all about the different kind and have been thinking about ordering Orijen. Again thank you so so so much! |

| May want to pick up some Nutrical, concentrated supplement paste until she starts eating better. It may work better than the Pedialyte alone, to keep her glucose level up. Be sure to keep her warm, you can use a heating pad on LOW only, and be sure she has room to move off of it if she gets too warm. You can run the plug and cord through a piece of PVC plastic pipe to keep her from chewing on it, or put it under a kennel. If she doesn't show great improvement in 24-48 hours after starting the Doxycycline, take her back to the vet, he may need to change the antibiotic.

I'm happy she is doing better and I hope she continues to grow stronger every day with the medication. Continue to keep us updated on your little girl's progress. Diet/kibble suggestions: wait until you see your regular vet and discuss the kidney related test results. One of the knowledgeable and experienced people here can then give you info on some options for a good puppy kibble. (my kibble knowledge is limited and my boys' food probably wouldn't suit your puppy)

I haven't owned a puppy for a whole lot of years, so I can't help you on the puppy kibble question. What does your vet recommend?

| I'm almost positive it's an upper respiratory infection now thank you all for replying! I posted a video of her doing it so hopefully the anti-biotics will kick in! Thank you all again |

| nasal bordatella vacinne actually gave my new yorkie baby kennel cough. she has been seen at the vet and on medication but just wanted to tell you that this makes a lot of the very small dogs sick itself. it is meant to boost their immune system but seems common to actually just make them sick. |

| She is just adorable! I would have to say that it is allergies or upper respiratory infection. Andromeda has severe allergies and sounds just like that when she is off her meds. I am sure you vet can get you something to help her out. Best of luck |

| my yorkie problem My new yorkie timmy has a vomiting problem as well, that i've been trying to find answers for. I have my own thread (vomiting yorkie..please help) He only does it while eating. If i feed him one piece at a time and stop to burp him in between servings, hes usually fine. I have tried SEVERAL things including food changes to solve this and it is still happening. The vomit is very mucousy white bubbly goo with consistency of egg yolk almost, but sticky. It sometimes has food in it and sometimes not, but if he does it, he will do it like 2-3 times before being done He does hack after drinking as well, but no vomit. And he just started dry hacking randomly sometimes as well during no activity at all. i got him almost 2 months ago, and my vet is at a loss at this one, so im looking for anything to help! tested for megaesophagus=neg and blockage=neg
