| Important Question Just got a call from vet that my yorkie has high protein level in blood ... going in for urine test tomorrow. He asked about what type of food he is eating and how much protein is in it. I have researched food and the level is high.. Has anyone had a yorkie with this problem? |

| I have not had a problem with this but am sorta dissapointed no one has answered you. There are many people on here that advocate high-protein foods so I was hoping they would share their experiences or why they choose higher levels of protein. I tend to lean towards a more balanced kibble. I don't like super low protein for obvious reasons but I think the higher level kibbel might be too much for such small dogs. I mean, there is a difference between my 5.5 lb yorkie and a 50 lb working collie...you know what I mean? I don't think toy breeds little systems can handle the high protein very well. I don't have any proof - this is just my own personal opinion. Anyway, I do hope you get some advise on this issue. Good luck. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I was told by a Yorkie breeder that I should not feed a food higher than 28% protein.

I feed a grain free diet (usually around 35% protein) and I haven't had any problems with the blood work coming back with high protein levels. Now I did have a foster that had a high protein level and the vet diagnosed her with a UTI. She had definitely not been on a healthy diet, so a high protein food was not the source of her problems. As far as I know, UTI's appear with all kinds of diets, but I do believe some pups are more sensitive and should not be fed the higher protein foods.

| I'm sorry to hear you got negative results on the bloodtest, that's no fun!! We feed Snickers Acana kibble which is middle range protein in my opinion. 34%. I used to feed a 42% protein food( Evo) and Snickers did just fine with that as well. We also feed raw in the morning. What food do you feed your pup? I would immediately switch the food which I am sure you already did. Sorry to be of no help, but hoping everything balances out for you pup soon! Hugs- Snick & Viv
