| Ice Cream???? I noticed the mention of dairy products being toxic - but I always let my Toffee (she passed away last Christmas at 15-1/2 years old) have a 'few licks' of my ice cream cone. I have given Mr. Darcy, my new little man, a couple of licks - is this going to hurt him? |

| I haven't given any to Lucy yet - but in the summer when we go to Dairy Queen, they always give us a tiny scoop for our Westie, Ringo. He loves it! No ill effects but it is a fairly rare treat. I'm anxious to hear if others give it to their Yorkies. |

| I give small amounts of yogurt and cheese to my furbabies, sometimes even a lil bit of ice cream But I would never let them have a bowl of milk or very much dairy. |

| I give Jackson pieces of cheese all the time for training, as well as a few licks of my ice cream here and there (usually in the summer time). I don't think it's bad for them? Maybe in large amounts it is.

| I think the problem with dairy is that a lot of dogs, after weening, become lactose intolerant. Really small amounts (cheese, a couple of licks from an ice cream cone) are probably not enough to give them an upset tummy. Regarding yogurt (and I'm talking about plain yogurt where no sugar has been added), it shows a very small amount of carbs (which is lactose, or milk sugar) on the label. However, that lactose is what the good bacteria (lactobacilus and other probiotics) that are in yogurt feed on. So the amount of lactose that is on the label is what was there when the yogurt was packaged, but by the time you buy it the lactose level is much, much lower, and probably essentially all gone. So no need to worry if you (or your dog) are lactose intolerant when it comes to yogurt.

| My girls love ice cream and never had any ill effects. My husband has been giving them licks of ice cream since they were puppies, behind my back of course...lol Just make sure it's all natural and no artificial sweetners. Our grocery store here in CT carries, Frosty Paws doggie ice cream.

| Dairy isn't toxic to them. Most are lactose intolerant to some extent. A few licks of ice cream for most dogs won't hurt a thing. Yogurt and cottage cheese have pre and probiotics and most do fine with them.
