| Panting while riding in car??? I need a little help with car rides. Lately even on short trips, Sadie starts to pant in the car. I take off her coat and turn down the heat until I'm shivering and so is she, but she still panting. Is this a form of car sickness and what can I do to help her feel better and more comfy on car rides? Also, anyone know where to get a nice car seat so she will stop climbing up onto the back of my neck to lay while i'm driving? Thanks |

| PetGear and Snoozer both have nice car seats. Be aware that neither seat will protect your little one in a serious auto crash. As for the panting, it is probably anxiety related. Maximo does it. He can't wait to get into the car and then he pants and whines almost the whole time. |

| She is panting because she is stressed. Try to keep doing small short rides. Give her a treat when she is out of the car and calm. She will start to look forward to car rides. Also- try going in the car after she has been walked or played hard- being tired will help lower her anxiety. |

| thanks guys. she used to do so fine and just sleep through them. now she's up looking out the windows and then starts to get this panting (nerves). I'll try to keep helping soothe her and get her more excited about the car. possibly a car seat will help |

| Keep in mind you don't want car rides to be "Exciting" they should be just routine and something she does. If she starts getting too excited she will get agitated again- and be panting in excitement. It should just be mundane- something you just do. |

| Jimi used to pant in the car too, no matter how cold it was, lol. Sadie is probably just nervous or has anxiety. Now, for Jimi, I just put him in his crate and buckle it into the back seat and he goes to sleep. I think he must feel safe being confined.

| Piccolo can also pant, when riding in a car. I believe it is caused from stress. I do put her in a lookout seat, which helps. Also, taking a walk right before the ride helps, too. She is always fine on the ride home. I think she can't wait to get back. Ha.

| Zeke does not always pant, but will whine. I have found that if I lower the window closest too him just a little, he is much happier. I don't know why we have trouble in the car because he loves riding in the motor home. I think opening a window just a little must lower the closed up feeling that being in the car gives him. |

YT 500 Club Member | Sophie loves to ride in the car but will also pant. We got her a car seat last summer, and she seems to ride much better. I know it was bad, but she liked to sit on my lap when we were riding. However, she would also pant and would bark at everything. She was not particulary fun to ride with in town. Now our rides are much better.

| we're going to invest in a lookout car seat. i hope this will help her to lessen the stress, see out and enjoy it, and also to stop climbing on my shoulders while i'm driving. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I recently got the Lookout seat Jersey seems to like it. He doesn't pant but he gets car sick so I have to be careful when and how long the ride, I'm trying to take him out on saturdays around town for local errands to try to get him use to it. Short rides might help the anxiety.

| Tobie doesn't do it every time but he does occasionally. He was cracking DH and I up the other day because he was panting in the car and it had a rhythm to it that sounded just like the song that was playing. LOL. It sounded like he was panting to the music

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | I can tell you that unfortunately after 4 years of commuting to ganma-ma's house that my daughter's Cole still has issues with panting on car rides. My Mother was with me one day & was afraid he was going to have a heart attack. She had never seen anything like it before & was so concerned. He has gotten better through the yrs. It's a 45 min commute, but he never ever sleeps. He also watches tv & barks @certain commercials, jiggles, animations & most animals. But we LOVE him so much & he is the most gentle soul @all other times.

Oh my goodness, I thought you were talking about Gabby. She does the exact same thing. When we picked her up from the breeder, on the way home she crawled onto the back of my neck, where she stayed the whole time! That is where she still rides most of the time. Also, when I come into the house after an errand, I go immediately to the laundry room and take down the baby gate. She is so excited to see me, when I pick her up she goes around and around my neck and shoulders. This is especially fun when she is so excited she pees, steps in the pee in her excitment and then walks around my neck and shoulders! ewww!!
