| Weird question re: poop I'm just trying to figure out what to expect and determine a good potty training schedule. This is going to sound like an odd question but here goes . . . I know puppies have small bladders and need to go approximately 10-20 minutes after drinking water or after vigorous play but are their bowel movements also regular? How many times a day does your puppy go number two? |

| Fergie usually goes about a half hour after she eats sometimes. She always goes once in the morning, and once before we go to bed. Do you have your puppy on a feeding schedule? That would help determining potty times. |

| Thanks for sharing that info. The puppy is arriving next weekend at the end of February but I'm planning on feeding him 3-4 times a day (once after morning potty, at midday, late afternoon and a little bit in the evening). Can I expect him to go (number 2) about half an hour after each meal (same as number 1) or roughly twice a day? I'm fortunate enough to work from home for the next few months so I can spend the day with him to monitor everything but I want to know how frequently he should be having bowel movements. Thanks again for your help! |

| I still find it hard to know when my 2 are going to poo. I use puppy pads inside and they are very good going on them. Maybe you might want to try that out for a while since you new one is going to be a puppy? I stay at home too, and I just see that they poo on the pads without me always catching them going . Thankfully, my 2 are good about using the puppy pads.

| I'm going to be crate-training the puppy to go outside, so I can't rely on the puppy pads. I prefer to train to go outside so the puppy knows it's not okay to go inside the house, including other people's houses. I always wonder what owners do if they're at someone else's house and the puppy is peepad trained only - maybe just carry peepads with you? I guess I'll keep an eye on the puppy and just make sure he's pooping regularly. I'm probably going overkill thinking about this stuff. Actually, I know I'm going overkill Thanks so much for the info everyone. |

| My yorki prefers to go outside but if we aren’t home she uses the pads. I got her in the winter and there was a foot of snow and she weighed less than 1 lb. I tried crate training and it was the worst 3 days of my life. When we are out some where I just take her to the bathroom with me and put down her pad |

| Bailey poops once a day. I think the number of daily poops depends on the quality of the dog food. We crate trained during potty training and trained Bailey to ring a bell and go outside. It wasn't easy - but she was trained in two months and reliable in four months. Good luck!

| Ella usually goes about 3 times a day. When i get up in the morning there is always a poo on the puppy pad and then she goes twice a day outside. I try to take her out within an hour of her two wet food feedings b/c i know she'll go then. =]

| Thank you so much everyone for sharing your poop stories Katandsnoopy - that is too funny. I'm going with the green and chocolate brown theme for all the pretty stuff. Karrie - that is exact training regime I'm planning on using - crate + bell +going outside. I'm bracing myself for the ordeal, but I'm totally committed. Thanks again!! |

| Jackson's usually 2x a day. Once in the AM and once after dinner. He's 1 year old.
