| How soon can I have her groomed/bathed? Roxie was spayed on Thursday, and she has been really crusty and stinky since then. She actually had feces stuck to her rear fur! We were told not to get her wet for 7 days. Is it ok if I make an appointment with the groomer to have her bathed and cleaned up next weekend? It will be beyond the 7 days, but just barely. I have washed her face and her bum with a wet washcloth (making sure not to wet the incision site) but she still looks (and smells) pretty rank.

| i would wait they mean not wet only but grooming, bathing, etc are much more than that - i would give her a good 2-3 weeks before i would take her in as you want her totally healed not to mention the stress of it while her little body is trying to heal |

| I wouldn't think a little "spot" cleaning would hurt.

| She really stinks. What can I do in the meantime? I sprayed her with some Groomax Freshening Spray, but it only lasts a few hours. Can I sprinkle her with some baby powder? What are my options? Her stench is taking over the whole house...like that episode of Seinfeld with the smelly car.

| Generally the bad odors on dogs come from their face, bottom and feet. I would do a good cleaning with a watered down shampoo on these areas and then see if that helps.

| Thanks, I will give that a shot. I didn't want to risk getting soap in her incision site, so I just used warm water and a washcloth to clean her face and butt, but obviously that is not cutting it. Will it be ok if I just give her a bath here at home after the 7 days are up? (as opposed to a full professional grooming).

| Jamie got spayed last month. The incision area looked very good and it was healing nicely. The Vet took the stiches out after 7 days but asked that I not bathe her for a few more days. Based upon that, I would think that if the incision area looks good, you could give her a bath in about 10 days from the spay. I agree with others that grooming should wait until week or so after that. |
