| I have a couple of options when it comes to neutering and think I know what I am going to do, but would like a little advice anyway. When I bring him to the vet's office. He can get the exam, sedation, anesthesia, respiratory monitoring, blood clotting screening, antibiotic injection, pain injection, and a nail trim. That is included in the price. I can upgrade to all of that and cardiac monitoring, IV catheter and fluids, and a mini chem panel to check liver and kidney functions. It is an extra $35. Do you think this is something I would need to get, or do you just think they are trying to get more money. I talked with two good friends and they both had conflicting answers for me. One thought I should get it, one said I shouldn't. I just want to get what is best for my little guy. Please suggest what you think you would do. ![]() |

| The bloodwork is not necessary for the surgery but it is good to have a baseline for his blood so the doc will have something to compare if he ever gets sick.

| I would get it all done at the same time. Extra tests = Extra special care ![]()

| My vet strongly recommends the mini blood panel to screen for liver problems. If he happens to have some hidden liver problems and he is put to sleep he might not wake up. Dr. Amy very strongly recommends the blood work and $35.00 is not a lot of money considering the risk involved if it is not done. Please do some independent research on regarding the issue.

| Sorry for my impassioned response, but I just went through a "liver shunt scare" that me through an emotional ringer.

| My Vet used to have this option but now it is mandatory. They have done surgeries in the past without running the tests & then the kidney would fail the next day. Those tests are taken to make sure that our babies are healthy before the surgery so there are no complications during or after the surgery. I would definitely do it so that you know everything is working properly before surgery. Good Luck!!
