| curved/roached back.... Hi everybody, my name is Sally and I am new on here...... we have got a beautiful yorkie puppy called Molly who is now 15 weeks old.... she appears to have a curved back ( I believe the term used for it is a roached back ) we didnt notice any problems when we first got Molly and when we had her vet checked nothing was mentioned that she may develope this problem we were told she was fine..... does anybody know anything about this problem and will she be ok long term? we love her very much she is adorable, and she jumps and runs around fine, her back doesnt appear to bother her....... Would be great if somebody could give me some information about this problem please..... Many thanks Sally |

| Hi Sally and welcome to YT your girl can live a long life with no health issues stemming from a roach back(curvuture of the spine) ,it is from a conformation standpoint so she should be spayed and never be bred.

| Hi Danyell... thankyou so much for replying back to my post so quickly.... yes we are defo getting Molly spayed we were going to do that even before we knew she had this problem....... do you know is a curved spine quite common for the yorkshire terrier breed? Ive never heard of it before or never seen it before....... I just noticed that something wasnt right with Molly,s back a few days ago, as we also have Tilly our 5 year old yorkie and her back is straight and she holds her tail up high when she walks...... We both say that our Molly is unique, and as long as she is not in any discomfort thats fine........ she is due to be microchipped so when i take her to the vets again I will have a chat with them....... Many thanks again Sally |

| No it is not common in yorkies but can happen and genetics is believed to play a role. I have never heard of a yorkie suffering in pain from a roach back ,it should not interfere with her comfort or life span. Only problem would be breeding or in showing she does not conform to standard. We look forward to seeing pics of your much loved yorkies description of body type from akc.org Body Well proportioned and very compact. The back is rather short, the back line level, with height at shoulder the same as at the rump.

| Hi and welcome to YT! I don't know much about it, but don't believe there will be any problem with her health because of it. BTW ~ I love your username Great scripture and one of my favorites.

| My Isabel has a roached back, she is 8 now and she has no problems at all. We call her the Iron Lady because so little affects her. She runs like the wind and is a loving little girl. Good luck with your sweetie. |
