| Can she have a yeast infection... in her ear? She itches it alot in the morning when she wakes up and right before going to bed at night. It is crazy hard itching too, and she does it for like 5 minutes. I know it's not ear mites b/c i told the vet and she checked her out. Ella doesn't have a vet appointment until May and idk if she can wait that long. If it is a yeast infection is there anything i can do about it at home? Or does she need to go to the vet asap.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, it may be yeast, or bacterial, or both. When you smell the ear, does it have an odor? If the itching is this bad, she should be seen. The can take a quick smear, scope it, and if there is bacteria/fungus, give you an ointment that covers both. I wouldn't leave a possible ear infection unchecked bc they can go deeper into the ear and really cause a problem .

| Well i haven't changed her food any. She got this itch about 2 months ago and she's been on the same food the whole time. Could she develop a food allergy even after she's been eating the same thing for months now?

| They can develop food allergies after being exposed to an ingredient for a long period of time. If she won't stop scratching, she does need to see the vet. The vet should have swabbed and looked at it under the scope before... Do you use a drying solution after baths? If not, that's a major cause of yeast infections.

| Yeast thrives in warm, moist environments. If a dog gets water in their ear(s) during a bath/swim, etc. it doesn't take much for it to turn into a yeast infection. Some ear cleaners on the market are also drying solutions. That is, they dry the ear and it helps prevent yeast.
