| Cosequin experience How long would you say it takes to see results of using Cosequin for Luxating Patella...grade 1?? I've read great results stories on here and was just wondering if anyone had a time frame for when they started noticing a difference??

| Luxating patellas (slipped kneecaps) are a structural problem. Cosequin or any other supplements cannot correct a structural problem. In very minor luxations like Grade 1 or 2, it may help prevent arthritic changes in the joints than can cause pain later on.

| Yeah I know it isn't preventative or a treatment...but I am not 100% sure it's LP but if it is it is very low grade so I have heard supplements can aid in the progression of the condition although it doesn't prevent it.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey had grade one, I was told this by his vet and by his very good breeder who suggested I put him on supplements. After 5 months of supplements, vet said that he couldn't see any evidence of LP. In other words, I guess there was no evidence of slippage on that day. I'm continuing to give him the supplements. Ladymom's correct, surgery is needed for the higher grades, because it is a structural problem, however, it may also help the lower grades from getting any worse.

Have your vet check his knees if you suspect LP's. It is very easy to diagnose with manipulation. Nancy, how old was Joey when the vet said he had LP's? Puppy's knees can tighten up on their own as they mature.

Using Cosequin in dogs with grade 1 LP's sure can't hurt. I hope the OP has her Yorkie's knees evaluated by her vet, though, instead of just diagnosing him herself. I do get concerned that Cosequin is recommended here for LP's so frequently. I just hope that people understand it can't fix a structural problem and is not a substitute for your vet's treatment recommendation.

| It isn't a self-diagnosis...I have been told before that her knees are a little loose but nothing to worry about...but when I felt this popping I got concerned...I made an appointment for Friday morning...I am posting on here to ease my worry until then as I have already dealt with my baby having Legg Perthes sigh.. sorry to cause any confusion...I am using Cosequin not as a prevention but as a supplement that is good for joints regardless (it will also help her post-surgery hip)...It just so happens it has been known to help aid in the progression of Luxating Patella So I figured I'd give it a try...although I know it doesn't prevent it...it is a vitamin. BTW: she is a year and a half old

From my own personal experience with Glucosamine, I was taking it for arthritis for several years and had great results, but I switched brands, and the new brand wreaked havoc on my stomach, and I stopped taking any. My joint pains came back with a vengeance, so I started taken it again. You don't get results overnight, it's not a pain medication, it took 3 weeks before there was any improvement at all, and the process has been very slow, but it definitely helping. I'm so glad Lady is doing better, arthritis is so painful, and of course the pain keeps you from wanting to move the joints, which worsens the condition.
