| Nibbling on her toe nails, and hips... So lately (in the last 6 monthsor so) I've noticed that Roxy has been chewing and nibbling on her toe nails / claws. For as long as I can remember (she's 1 1/2) she's nibled her feet - especially at night. I always thought she was just cleaning them. Tonight (and one other night several months ago) I found a toe nail / claw on the floor. It's not an entire nail, but kind of like an outter casing of the nail. It's the tip part and then the sides of the nail. I just googled dogs biting their nails and one of the results said it could be because she has allergies to something. We feed her one of the best foods in the UK (Burns mini bites), so I don't know if she's allergic to something in her food, or something in general, or even allergic to anything at all. It seems like she nibbles on her paws the most, but occasionally she'll nibble on her back side and hip area (but not for long) and she'll also scratch her neck and ears a lot. Does anyone know why she does this? Is finding a nail on the floor anything to be concerned about? Should we take her to the vet? Will it be worth it? Taking her in costs £30 ($55), and I don't want to go if it's not necessary.

| We found that Hot Rod is allergic to chicken. He can tolerate some small amounts of treats but after too many, he will start to lick his paws. It is hard because he just loves chicken. You might want to try withholding 1 item at a time to see if you can isolate what it might be that your little one is allergic to. Even if you switch foods, it takes time to completely get it out of their system so you will need to do it for over a period of time. I don't think you need to take your little one to the vet for this, unless you feel more comfortable with taking her in. Good luck.

| Soft cone collar needed I have a morkie, Pippy, who had a tumor removed on the top of his left hind paw 2 days ago. He currently is using a cone from the vet that is actually the next size up to provide the extra length needed to prevent him reaching that back foot- he could still get to it with the cone for his designated size. I saw this ad and am very interested as he is very uncomfortable and sad with this cone, and he has to have the stitches in for 3 weeks. I am not computer savvy and have actually never posted on this forum because I could not figure out how to do it. How do I communicate with the lady who makes them? My dog is about 10 pounds. My personal e-mail is ladyleirer@yahoo.com. Thank-you. |

| Mine does this as well, never could figure out why. She's been doing it since she was small, she's now 6 yrs old. She is a bit better after her nails get cut. Then when they start to grow she'll start again. So I came to the conclusion that it bothers her when her nails get longer.

| It definitely sounds like allergies to me. If left untreat it can cause skin diseases, they can start to lose hair and smell bad. It's important to figure out what they are alergic to and stop feeding them what ever it is.' |

| I would also say allergies, and like someone suggested above, it may not be a grain allergy. Some dogs are allergic to chicken. I would recommend a trip to the vet to rule out other health issues first then switch to a grain free, fish based dog food. |
