| Puppy Question ?!?! Hi this is my first litter - and I have a question about my puppy. She's 2 weeks old today and just one of her eyes opened slightly - IS THIS NORMAL? Just for one eye to open at a time??? And also it's kinda a blueish black color - IS THAT NORMAL? Sorry just very worried ... Like I said it's my first litter ever - and just want to know what to expect. THANKS Katie |

| I would call your Vet, but it sounds normal to me. When they are so tiny their little eyes do look a little bluish, and I would think that sometimes thier eyes open one at a time. Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose |

| Hello! It is normal for the eyes to open one at a time or both at the same time. It just really depends on each puppy. The eyes will stay a blue/black color for a little while and if you look at photos of little puppies you really can see it if you look close. They seem 100% to me, but of course if you are really worried you can always call your vet. If you see a lot of crusties on the eyelids or they look red and swollen then I would for sure call the vet. Good luck with your babies!

| Thank you!!!! She just opened her other eye (about 15 minutes later). I didn't know that they had a blueish tint to them. Thanks for the advice. It really helped. Katie |

| Different puppies open their eyes at different times. It could be up to a week or maybe more time then the others. As far as 1 eye opening and the other closed thats fine. And as far as the blue black that is normal too! They have a film over their eyes for a while, don't worry...

| One more thing to remember. Even after the puppies eyes are completely open, they still cannot see very well. DO NOT THINK THAT YOUR PUPPIES ARE BLIND!!! It takes time for all of their senses to become completely functional. Suz |

That is right. I remember reading they don't have 100% vision until they are 8 to 10 weeks of age (I forget which age it was). They kinda run into things when they go too fast until they get past that age sometimes.

| Everthing is totally normal and right on time! Isn't it soooooo exciting!?! I always feel excited when they first open their eyes....kind of like when a child looses their first tooth. I was going to mention not to think the pup is blind, but someone beat me to it. If you look in the pups ears, you will see that they are starting to open up also. You will probably have to start "puppy rolling" very soon. You will find your pup stranded on her back, crying and unable to turn back over by herself. Get pictures, pictures, pictures! At 5 weeks you will start noticing the pup changing quite a bit. After that, it is day by day changes! Have fun, the time goes by so quickly!!!! |
