| itching Mayme has been scratching and licking her paws since this summer. It has progressively gotten worse and here lately I've noticed that she has lost hair around her back leg knees. She will mainly just bite her knees, lick her front paws, and try to bite around her rear end. I'm really concerned now that she has begun to loss some hair. One vet told me she had a flea allergy - well....she doesn't have fleas..never has. Another vet told me she was too young for allergies (she's 2)..and another has told me to give her benedryl. The benedryl has relieved her somewhat. She doesn't really bite herself but still scratches quite a bit. I'm guessing that she has allergies. She is a liver compromised dog so she must stay on her Royal Canin Hepatic diet. Does anyone have any natural remedies or any other ideas to help her find some relief? A google search brings up a product called Skin-Eze but I'm very cautious and wondering if anyone has used this and/or heard of it? Thanks for your ideas and suggestions in advance! Hannah |

| I have a liver compromised dog who has severe allergies. She is on the Hill's diet because the RC hepatic causes itching in some dogs. You could try the hills and see if that helps. You also could do what I did when I got frustrated -- I took her to a dermatologist and we now have her on Neoral solution to keep her allergies at bay. Her hair grew back and although she still has allergies, the symptoms are much more under control. Benadryl never did anything for her either.

I remember reading about the RC causing itching when I was deciding on which one I wanted her to eat (the Hills or RC). Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to have the vet write me a prescription for the Hills and see if that fixes anything. She's been on the RC for about a year and a half. I wonder if the itching has just slowly worsened to where I'm REALLY noticing it now.

| Hi Hannah, I use to use Benadryl with my White Shepherd because my Vet at the time told me to & it seemed to work for her. But when I started using my Holistic Vet - she now has me give her: Luffeel. Its a homeopathic tablet that has to be crushed & added under her tongue on an empty stomach. I also found that the Raw diet did so much for her. "Miracles" really! My Sira had the same symptoms as your Mayme- but with her diet, her new Homeopathic products, & some accupuncture she rarely licks anymore. She is 14 yrs old & we also give her Adequin shots once a month for her hip pain...so she is bound to have some liver issues at this point. Regarding my Yorkie- Zoe- she was on the raw diet for a while but it became to strong for her digestive system to handle & I tried many. As for my Shepherd - it has made all the difference for her, along with the homeopathic products I use for pain, inflammation, ect ... When my yorkie gets an upset stomach I use a homeopathic granule called colubrina & it works really well on her upset belly. These are just some of the suggestions I have-I say its always great to keep an open mind & if your willing to try new stuff - you just may be surprised at the results. All of the homeopathic products I use are from Germany. Take Care & good luck on finding what works for you & Mayme!!

We believe she is mild MVD. Her post biles are 39 but I've never proceeded with further testing as her symptoms have greatly improved. I went back in my records and had noticed that she was doing this same thing this time last year. I wonder if the severity has just increased to where I realize this is now a serious problem or that this is just a seasonal thing. Have you been using Natural Balance Vegetarian and doing ok with it? Do you think this is better than the prescription diets?

| Have u talk to a dog nutritionalist one may be able to help u with a diet that will work the rc has corn as the second ingredients and could be the cause of the itching but with a food allergy the best way is a elimination diet
