Yorkie Yakker | from puppy to adult Yoda will be 6 months January 11 and I want to switch him over to adult food. problem is, he got into my other dogs food, which is not the food I want him to eat. My other dogs are larger (labs) and they are my husbands duck hunting dogs. I am very sure the food for them has a little extra of this and a whole lot of extra of that because they are so active. I just hope the adult food I wanna feed Yoda doesn't mess up his little belly he eats benaful puppy food now... I was going to their adult brand, or is there something else out there that is really good or even better? any recommendations?

| Beneful, or pretty much any grocery store brand of dog food for that matter is not a very nutritious choice. I had Nick on it at one point, too. I didn't have any problems but I started learning more and more about what is in commercial dog foods and it is TOTALLY gross!! If you have a PetCo near you, that would probably be the easiest way to see some examples of premium dog foods. They carry brands such as Natural Balance, Wellness and Solid Gold - all of which don't use fillers or by-products. There are some good posts on here that talk about the yukky stuff in kibble. A website I love is www.dogfoodanalysis.com. This rates different brands of dog foods and tells you why it scored what it did. When I wanted a higher quality food for Nick, I started emailing several top rated brands and asking for samples. Most are pretty good about letting you try their product before you have to buy. Some good brands you might want to check out are Innova, Orijen, Wellness, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, Halo, Taste of the Wild. Most of these companies have kibble specifically designed for small breeds. Good luck! |

| I'm not a big fan of the grocery store brands either. We have a pet boutique here that educated me on dog food and I agree now that grocery store brands are gross. I use Natural Balance in the small bites. My peke eats that and my yorkies eat it to supplement their Natures Variety raw. I am thinking of changing to something else since my peke isn't eating it very well anymore. My sons' dogs both eat Natural Balance and love it.
