| Itchy and scratchy Hannah is constantly scratching. She scratches under her chin and her side. Today, as I was brushing and combing her I saw some small flakes. What could possibly cause this. She is due for a grooming appt. on Thursday. She hasn't had a bath in at least three weeks. |

| It could be the shampoo you have been using or the food she is eating.. What kind of shampoo are you using? What kind of food is she eating?

| Barney tends to get "dandruff" at this time of the year along with the rest of us new englanders who have to brave the brittle cold and have the heat cranking so that we have no moisture in the air. For us, it is due to change in weather as opposed to anything else.

| Uni was scratching a lot before on her shoulders. She was breaking off a lot of her hair. I switched her food with no corn or wheat in it. (I also stopped giving her corn kernels and pieces of my [wheat] bread, I didn't know!) It's been about 2-3 months and she's stopped itching a lot. Her hair is growing back thicker (and darker yay!) on her shoulders. It could very well be the food you are giving. what are you feeding her? could be something in there she is allergic to. Sometimes changing shampoos is not enough, you have to find out the root of the problem. Allergy tests are horribly time consuming I've heard. Luckily we didn't have to go that route. If it is the heater, maybe try a humidifier?

| Someone posted a cure for the dry skin and I tried it and Cabella has not been digging her hair out since. It is Castile soap. I got the one with Lavender in it. I run a sink half full of water and add a couple of squirts of the castile soap. It doesn't lather as much but I rinse, rinse, rinse. The you take a pint of water and add 3 Tablespoons of apple cider vinager. I got the organic acv at the health store along with the castile soap. I am sorry I am new to YT and trying to attach and do things with the computor, I saved her link and post so I can refer to it again, if I can figure out how to send the link to you I will be happy to. It really has made a difference in my girls coat and skin. I also switched her to royal canine vet formula skin and coat. I think this has also helped her. She was so bad she rubbed her skin off and had bleeding places. Even though I use K9 advantage if she would get a flea on her it will send her into a reaction. They can still get fleas using the preventive, it will just kill the flea but the stuff they leave on their skin before they die is what she is having problems with. I will try to link the orig. post if I can. Good luck. Oh she said she didn't rinse out the acv, but It was kinda strong for me so after I put it on I left it for about 2 min then I did do a quick rinse out. |

| I personally love castile soap and am a big fan of Dr. Bronner's magic soap. I have the bar and the liquid. I use it in my homemade green cleaning products and also use it for my hair and stuff. However, I find it a little drying on my skin and hair. I would be hesitant to use it on my dogs - what else is in the recipe? Would like to check it out.

| The thread was under Yorkie Health and Diet. "Stop itchy dry skin, fleas and ticks naturally. " link is http.//www yorkietalk.com/forums/yorkie-health-diet/190711-stop-itchy-dry-skin-fleas-ticks-naturally-new-post html I hope this can get you there. I can't get it to go through. I can try to email it if you want to give me your email address. If there is something that could hurt my guys from it please let me know. I do know it has helped my female. The vinegar leaves their hair so soft, I don't even use a conditioner and the tangles comb right out. I was concerned if the vinegar could cause a problem to the skin, any thoughts on this would be appriciated also. Sharon |
