| food questions for new yorkie mommy We recently added a yorkie to our family and are having difficulties with poo and gas issues. I have other dogs and never experienced these problems before. She is 14 weeks and when we got her at 8 weeks she was on Diamond puppy food which we decided to change because we could not find it near where we lived so we slowly mixed in pedigree puupy which we found she had a hard time eating plus started with diahrea....went to the vets no worms....vet gave us medicine and special canned food to stop the problem....it went away and she started have good poos.....so then we had to find a new food to start her on so after much decision we started her on ukanuba small breed puppy which she has been on for 3 weeks....well she has terrible gas and poops sooo much....usually about 4 or 5 times for one feeding....am thinking of switching to either royal canin puppy or wellness....any thoughts about this would be appreciated! Sorry for such a long post She's such a good girl but the pooing is hurting her butt....she drags it on the floor alot. |

| I would go with the Wellness , Eukanuba is really a very poor quality food and could be causing her gas and mulitple poops. While on Wellness I could just about schedule my puppys poops one time at 7 am then shortly after dinner around 6. Wellness is really a good quality food and will probally help with both the poops and gas Another good food is Merricks puppy plate, because you can add water and it makes a nice gravy so its softer and easier to chew.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | With the symptoms on the current food, I think you're smart to think about switching - there are some ingredients in there that are probably irritating her system a lot. Although...if she is only 14 wks old...I really doubt she already has a food sensitivity at this age. So, was she tested for giardia back during her fecal test? Well anyway, if we want to assume food issues -- w/ EUK Puppy, the ones to assume would be Corn and beet pulp. She could even have an issue w/ chicken...but I just don't think it's really all that possible w/ her immune system being so immature yet. So, if it's btwn Canin and Wellness - I'd vote for the Wellness so that you can avoid corn for this baby, and see if this helps.

| I had problems with Bailey's poops as well when I first brought him home. I put him on Wellness and he has done wonderful on it. Good luck with your puppy

| Great! Ok....so when I switch I know you are supose to slowly switch but since she is having a problem should I just give the new food?? Or slowly switch over to the new food? I think I am going to go with wellness....Thanks for the feed back! My other two dogs can pretty much eat anything so this is all new to me! |
