YT Addict | How long for e-collar? It doesn't really say much on the care sheet that they gave me, is it about 10 days to have an e-collar on after spay surgery? I know that's how long before they can get wet. She absolutely hates it but I know once it comes off she starts to lick the incision. I feel bad for her she won't really walk around with the collar on. But with the onesie and the rain so bad here she kept peeing in the onesie before I could get it off her butt. So the e-collar was necessary. :/

| Poor girl. Our vet said 10 days for the e-collar, but then admitted that they err on the side of caution. Is she trying to lick a lot? Lola hasn't shown much interest, but we've had to watch Toby very carefully. Any chance you can wrap some gauze around it to keep her away from it? It's been years since we had a female dog, but I really don't remember it being so much of a hassle!!! This is where we really earn mommy stripes, isn't it? Good luck, I'll be thinking of you sharing the fun

I tried wrapping a thin hand towel, I mean it's almost as thin as a thicker gauze. But she would move it aside, I can only imagine her doing the same with gauze itself. I did that at first when she first had an accident in her onesie, before we went and got an e-collar. She wants to lick that spot!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I never had Prada on the e collar, I got a pack on baby onesies and put them on her, make a little slit for the tail and keep them on, only open the snaps and roll the onesie when you take her out to do her poop run.. It worked for me and my Prada instead of that the annoying e collar, she hated it in her way home from the vet.. just make sure she does not take it off... |

But when she did it twice, and kept moving the towel we tied in the meantime while washing the onesie, we decided that it will just be a lot less hassle to get an e-collar. But not only is it a hassle that she pees in it, but she's also getting pee on HER which means it could be getting on the incision. It's essential to not let her lick the area, at all. So these little times where she'd get at it are bad and we want to avoid that happening again. We just don't know about how long to keep her in the collar, though.

| Ella was just fixed last Thursday, and even after onsie suggestions from here, I bought her a bite-not collar (smallest cat size). I could see her still licking through the fabric, and the cone was so uncomfortable for her the first night. Another suggestion I got here was a soft e-collar. I would have chosen that too, but the store did not have her size and I didn't want to wait to have it sent to me. She has not had any issues with the bite-not collar.
