| haveing weight problems so Gatsby is under weight he should be 5 1/2 pounds and he is down to almost 5, he is visibly skinny and the vet tried to put him on high fat food but it made him throw up so she said stop and offered no more advice. im at a loss and im really worried when i see him sometimes i just burst into tears. i cant change his food because anything else makes him sick, yes, i do it slowly i took a whole mounth to change foods once and it still made him sick. so what im asking is maybe a food topper i can try or a supplement or maybe someone knows a home remedy? the woman at the petstore suggested nutracal everyday but i wanted to ask first he is almost a year old and we have had problems for about 4 months he became anemic from fleas and had to have a transfusion he never got the weight back the fleas are gone and the transfusion was in september thanks in advance

| You can add fish oil or canola oil to his food. This will add extra calories and helps keep coat and skin nice.

| You could also add a little bit of shredded cheese to his food. What about peanut butter in a kong? My pup loves that... I freeze them so it takes a bit longer to get it out. I would ask your vet about the nutra-cal. Ella was on it the first few weeks i had her and it was the only way she would eat at all. I am not sure if it is good to use every day, but then again, I don't see why not until he gets his weight up. Maybe once a day or once every other day? Hope he gains weight soon!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Was looking at a catalog last night from DrsFosterandSmith.com last night. They had some stuff to help with dogs who are underweight. You might want to check it out.

Does anyone happen to actually know why you can't do nutri-cal everyday from a vet standpoint? I've always had it recommended to me by a vet because it was produced to be a high calorie supplement for dogs who aren't consuming enough - that the issue with feeding too much of it when it wasn't needed was that it would obviously cause weight gain. If he's not eating enough to make him gain weight that he needs, I don't really see why some on a daily basis can't be useful until he gains the needed weight. Quote:
It's not a vitamin supplement but that's not what you're feeding it for right? You just want the weight gain benefits? | ||

| i am only giveing him nutra-stat for the weight gain but nutra-cal can be used as a meal replacer and he still dose not seem to be eating but today he would not even lick the nutra-stat i pryed open his mouth and one of his last two baby teeth is dangling out of his gums so i think its hurt for a while the vet said to let him get it out and not interfer so i am im hopeing he will get it out on his own it has turned a light brown and is only attached by like one thin piece of gum i gave him a chew bone and im hopeing it will fall out thank you all for your advice
