worried..is coco eating enough? :( I am currently feeding my 7 month old yorkie ORIJEN kibbles for puppies. It says I'm supposed to be feeding him at least 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups a day but he only finishes HALF a cup and only IF were lucky. I've tried him on RC, eagle pack, and now orijen, and that's how much he's always been eating. I have a feeling he doesn't like kibbles...and it's weird because I feel like he's hungry, he's always running to the closet where I have all the treats desperately waiting for me to feed him. Do you guys find this normal? He's 8pounds... People have advised me to feed him raw food, I've been giving him that Cesars brand along with the kibbles but I heard grocery brands aren't good so I wanna avoid that...Any advice? Thanks guys -Maria

| Hi Maria.... Wow girl, you are feeding really different foods out there. Orijen is one of the best! Ceaser is one of the worst! Ceaser is to dogs what McDonalds everyday is to humans. JUNKFOOD Snickers would eat about 1/4 cup of kibble when he was eating just kibble, so I think you're pup is fine. The recommended amount is for an average puppy which would be much bigger than a Yorkie. Good Luck Chances are if you've been mixing the Ceaser with Orijen, your pup might not eat it dry now. Smiles- Snick & Viv

He's 7 months and weighs 8 pounds? I would think he is getting plenty to eat. His growing hax slowed down, he does not require as much food. At 8 pounds it does not sound like he has eating issues. LOL

I feed Sophie Orijen as well. She's only 5 lbs, but eats usually close to a 1/2 cup per day. In fact, she's eaten less than that today. She can be quite picky sometimes, but if she's eaten at an off time (like today) She won't eat her evening meal until later. So to really answer your question, I think your feeding is fine.

Most yorkies will not over eat. I feed mine in the morning and it is left out all day. Some days they eat it all, some days they doln't even eat half. Sol if they dlon't eat it all that does not mean they are picky, they just asren't hungry. To keep swithing food is the worst thing you can do. Hand feeding them will make them think that the food is yours and they can only eat it if you give it to them. If you want to know which food they prefer, put out several choices and see which one they eat. I've done that and some days they eat one kind and some days another.

I have my doubts about the recommended feeding amounts on kibble bags. I've had my new pup for 12 days. I allow her to free feed and she eats about half (if that) of the amount of kibble recommended on the bag for her age and weight. But, in that twelve days, she has gained 8 ounces -- half a pound! She also has so much energy she is practically bouncing off the walls. I told hubby it is like being trapped inside a pinball machine and Jezebel is the pinball! Bottom line is, just look at your dog and you will know if they are getting enough or too much.

Thanks ALOT for your advice guys So yeah I was worried because Coco is 8 pounds but it really doesn't show cuz he's tall and thin and he's not a miniature so I was kind of like worried he wasn't eating enough but yeah I realized it was fine and I shouldn't worry.I just want it to make sure...afterall he's my first yorkie, let alone my first puppy EVER. I noticed he really loves Orijen and since it's a really good type of food I'm going to definetly stick to it. Thanks ALOT everyone
