| Day After Spay Questions I know it hasn't even been 24 hrs., but I sure would like to hear some other experiences, about the day after spay...Yesterday, Apple was spayed around noon...I picked her up @5:30...When I got home, she walked around and around crying, for about an hour, then had what seemed like an explosive urination, and then she settled down and rested...She did the same thing last night around 9, and again at 4:00 this a.m....I gave her pain meds at 8 last night and 4 this morning (buprenex 0.3 mg/ml -Pet-Tinic)....It's like she doesn't know she has to pee? Of course the weather is so stormy here, I can't even take her outside....I don't think she's worrying about having an accident, I think her bladder is full and bothering her....Does this sound like a normal reaction right after spay, and how long will it last, if it is the norm? Thanks.... |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be that she isn't getting good enough pain control and so she doesn't want to go pee (like, the urge to pee is causing her pain/pressure?)...maybe call the vet in morning and discuss? Poor gal...I do hope she is feeling better already. Keep us posted. Hugs to her.

| Why is she on this instead of an NSAID? She doesn't have liver or kidney problems, right? This may not work well fo rher and she is probably walking around like that because of pain. Ellie was on this drug after spay (because she can't go on NSAIDS) and cried quite a bit. It is not usually the first choice and her vet would have rather seen her on an NSAID. Urination can be a bit funny after spay and UTIs are even possible. If you are concerned that she has lost all control or there is something really wrong, it would not hurt to call the vet.

| I dont remember Laci having pee issues as she was not able to have water after 10pm the night before, however she did walk around in circles a bit I think she was just disoriantated a bit , she just didnt know what was going on. She appeared drunk to me. I think it may take a while for the anestheia to get out of thier little bodies.

| I talked to the vet, and she said the pain med was one of the best, also strongest, and might be causing her to be whiny...She suggested I cut back from .5 cc's every 8 hrs. to .3 every 6, if she needed it...It makes sense, because she's doing her wimpering, even after just having taken the meds, and she shouldn't really be hurting much at that time..She's sleeping quietly now....The rain let up enough for me to take her out for a pee pee...The drug issue makes sense, as I remember, after having a C section that the morphine (and apple's med is a sythetic type morphine) really made me restless...Thanks for all the input, and I'll just keep watching her throughout the day.... |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Ksena was sleepy the first day. The days to follow were like it never happened. I hope the reduction of pain meds work. Curious, where has she been peeing? Is she holding it?

| Well, if she is still in pain, the vet can probably do better for her...

| I don't know if she was holding it or just didn't realize she had to go? She's pretty much housebroken, but if I, occasionally sleep beyond 6:30 a.m., she doesn't seem to mind going on the kitchen floor...I have a pee pad out for her, but she never was good at the pee pads...She does really well going outside on a schedule..(if it's not pouring down rain for 24 hrs.!) I believe the vet thinks the drug, intself, is causing her to be restless and whiny, more so than the pain...She (the vet) did ask me to call back, today, if cutting down the dose, and giving a couple of hrs. sooner didn't work...Right now, 5 hrs. after giving the .5 cc's @4 a.m., she seems to be doing better...It just may be that the meds are just too strong for her little system... |

| Hello, I just had my puppy Stella's stitches removed today after her spay (11 days later). They kept her one day overnight after her spay and when I picked her up to take her home I had no idea what to expect. She acted very similar to your puppy. she had major fits of urination. she had many accidents...so many I had to put her in the kitchen. When I walked her that night she would pee like 6 times during the walk. I read that they give them fluids during the surgery and that increased urination can be expected (unfortunately my vet did not mention this and I was nervous she was losing control o her bladder). Another thing she was very restless. she would not sit still and would cry. she would lay, then get up, then lay, etc. I put a super soft blanket down for her to lay on and that seemed to help. She also was not herself for about 4 days. everyone told me their dog was back to normal the next day but Stella took a while. Anyway, that was my experience. She seems to be back to her normal pee schedule and is spunky as ever. I just bathed her for the first time in 11 days and we are both happy now. I hope your puppy is recovers well!!! |

| Hi Maggie, Hows little Apple doing tonight? Where you able to get any sleep yourself? I hope everything is going well and both of you are doing great. Remember, take care of yourself so you can take care of Apple. All the best Cheryl and Milo |
